Paper machine press rolls fall into several types. The choice depends on machine speed, paper grade, dewatering demand, and maintenance conditions.
Plain press
This group includes the standard press and the plain-positive press. The top roll is usually granite. The bottom roll is rubber-covered cast iron.
Fabric-lined press and fabric-sleeve press
A fabric-lined press uses a plastic mesh to reduce nip pressure. A fabric-sleeve press fits a mesh sleeve over a rubber roll. It helps dewatering, but maintenance requirements are higher.
Vacuum press
A vacuum press suits high-speed paper machines. It uses a granite top roll and a vacuum bottom roll. It pulls water out quickly. Press efficiency relates to shell thickness. A thin-shell vacuum press performs better.
Grooved press
An alloy steel cutter cuts grooves into the roll surface. The groove open area affects dewatering. This type helps water removal and runs at lower press linear pressure. It also reduces uneven moisture across the sheet.
Blind-drilled press
Blind holes are drilled into an iron roll. The open area is larger, so the roll can hold more press water. It reduces felt wear and provides a wider nip, which helps improve press efficiency. For press roll shells, bearing housings, and suction components, Hansheng Automation can machine custom parts from customer drawings, in single pieces or small batches.
Wide nip press
A wide nip press increases nip width and extends the time the wet sheet stays under pressure. It raises press linear pressure and can effectively improve board quality and drying efficiency.
These press roll types and designs are selected based on paper machine performance and paper production needs. The goal is higher production efficiency and better product quality.
Beyond paper machine press rolls, our precision component customization covers more than one industry. We machine medical device components, yacht precision components, RC car precision components, filling machinery parts, food machinery parts, printing machinery parts, and tobacco packaging machinery parts. Hansheng Automation works from customer drawings and delivers one-off or batch parts to the required material, tolerance, and surface finish. Our scope is precision components, not complete machines.
