The key difference is whether the machine has its own independent untwisting structure. A frame strander without untwisting integrates basic untwisting into the stranding host. An untwisting machine is a separate supporting unit. At Hansheng Automation, we machine custom parts for these systems from customer drawings, including shafts, gears, flanges, bearing housings, and other non-standard components used in stranding and untwisting equipment.

Structure

A frame strander without untwisting usually includes a pay-off stand, stranding cage, capstan, and take-up and traversing device. It has no independent untwisting mechanism. Basic untwisting comes from the rotation of the stranding cage combined with reverse rotation of the pay-off stand. Cage speed and pay-off tension work together to control untwisting accuracy.

An untwisting machine is a separate dedicated unit. It comes in active and passive types. It has its own untwisting drive system, and the operator can adjust the untwisting speed independently. It normally sits between the stranding machine and the take-up device. Its job is to cancel the torsional stress created during wire stranding.

Applications

A frame strander without untwisting is only suitable for copper wire, aluminum wire, and other wires with good ductility and low untwisting precision requirements. Typical products include low-voltage cable cores and simple bunched wires. It cannot meet the untwisting needs of high-precision multi-strand wires.

An untwisting machine works with ordinary stranders and can handle high-precision stranding for most metal wires and composite wires. It is used with high-speed stranders and frame stranders. Common products include communication cables, high-voltage cables, and ACSR.

Untwisting accuracy and efficiency

A frame strander without untwisting depends on matching the cage speed. When the lay length changes, the untwisting ratio is hard to adjust precisely. Residual twist can remain in the wire. The linked adjustment speed of cage speed and pay-off tension limits production efficiency.

An untwisting machine lets the operator set untwisting speed independently. It can adjust untwisting parameters in real time according to wire material and lay length. This gives higher untwisting accuracy. It does not consume the speed resources of the stranding host, which can improve overall production efficiency.

Cost and installation

A frame strander without untwisting has a lower overall equipment cost. It takes up less floor space. No extra untwisting equipment is needed. It suits small wire processing plants.

An untwisting machine requires separate purchase and installation. This adds equipment investment and floor space. It suits large-scale, specialized wire producers.

Beyond parts for stranding equipment, our precision custom machining capability is not limited to cable machinery. Hansheng Automation can machine yacht precision components, RC car precision components, tobacco packaging machinery parts, filling machinery parts, printing machinery parts, food machinery parts, and non-standard metal parts for medical devices from customer drawings. We focus on build-to-print custom machining and produce single pieces or small batches according to customer drawings. We do not sell complete machines.
