A plate and frame filter press is commonly used for dewatering coating wastewater sludge.
The plate and frame filter press is a mature dewatering device. It is widely used in sludge dewatering projects in Europe and the United States. The filter press arranges filter plates and filter frames with filtrate passages in parallel and alternating order. A filter cloth is placed between each plate and frame. The pressing end presses the plates and frames together to form a filter chamber. Sludge enters through the feed inlet. Water passes through the filter plates and exits through the filtrate outlet. The filter cake builds up on the filter cloth inside the frames. When the plates and frames are released, the cake falls off easily. The equipment is simple to operate, gives a high solids content in the filter cake, and has strong adaptability.
The plate and frame filter press suits suspensions with highly compressible or nearly incompressible solids. It usually handles suspensions with a solid particle concentration below 10%. Operating pressure is generally 0.3 to 1.6 MPa, and can reach 3 MPa or higher in special cases. The filtration area can be increased or decreased by changing the number of plates and frames. Plates and frames are usually square. The inner edge length of the filter frame is 200 to 2000 mm. Frame thickness is 16 to 80 mm. Filtration area is 1 to 1200 m². Plates and frames are pressed by manual screw, electric screw, or hydraulic methods. They are made from wood, cast iron, cast steel, stainless steel, polypropylene, rubber, and other materials.
The plate and frame filter press is heavy and bulky. It runs intermittently. Solid output is 50 kg/h. Productivity is relatively low, but dewatering is high. Cake moisture content can reach 70% to 85%. The equipment needs someone to watch it, and automation is limited. It has many moving parts and is not very stable. Investment is slightly lower. Maintenance is difficult. Operation is complex and needs dedicated management. Service life is short.
A plate and frame filter press mainly consists of a fixed plate, filter frames, filter plates, a pressing plate, and a pressing device. Its appearance is similar to a chamber filter press. Plate and frame materials include metal, wood, engineering plastics, and rubber. Filter plate surface grooves of various forms act as drainage passages. The filter frame is hollow. Multiple filter plates and frames alternate. A filter medium, such as filter cloth, is placed between plates and frames. The frames and plates sit on two horizontal parallel beams through two support lugs. One end is the fixed plate. The pressing plate at the other end is pressed or pulled open by the pressing device during operation. The filter press feeds material and discharges filtrate through channels at the corners of plates and frames or through lug channels extending from both sides of plates and frames. Filtrate discharge can be open flow or closed flow. During filtration, the filter cake collects inside the frames. General working pressure of a plate and frame filter press is 0.3 to 0.5 MPa, and the pressing pressure is 1 to 2 MPa.
We can machine custom filter plates, filter frames, pressing plates, support lugs, and other precision parts from customer drawings, for single-piece or low-volume production.
Our custom precision component machining capability is not limited to coating wastewater sludge dewatering equipment. Beyond filter plates, filter frames, pressing plates, and support lugs, we also machine medical device parts, food machinery parts, yacht precision components, RC car structural parts, and non-standard parts for textile machinery and printing machinery. Hansheng Automation works from customer drawings and production quantities to deliver single-piece or low-volume precision machining.
