Slitting machines use several cutting methods. The main ones are cross cutting, longitudinal cutting, rotary cutting, and pressure cutting.

Cross cutting

Cross cutting cuts raw material or finished product across the transverse direction. It is mainly used for paper and film. It supports automated cutting, which improves production efficiency and product consistency.

Longitudinal cutting

Longitudinal cutting cuts along the longitudinal direction of the material. It suits roll materials such as roll paper. Cut length can be adjusted as needed, so it offers high flexibility.

Rotary cutting

Rotary cutting uses high-speed rotary blade wheels to cut material. It suits many materials, especially hard materials. Operation is simple, cutting speed is high, and the result is good. For slitter builders, Hansheng Automation can machine custom rotary blades, blade holders, and drive shafts from customer drawings, in single pieces or small batches.

Pressure cutting

Pressure cutting uses pressure to cut soft materials such as paper, leather, and fabric. Cutting precision is high, and quality is stable. It can also perform compound pressure cutting to improve cutting efficiency.

Cross cutter or longitudinal cutter?

Cross cutter: It cuts along the width direction of the material, turning wide material into narrow material. It offers high precision and high speed. It suits large-scale production, such as cross splitting of nonwoven fabric or paper.

Longitudinal cutter: It cuts along the length direction of the material, turning long strips into short sections. It provides precise length control and stable cutting performance. It suits labels, stickers, and products that need fixed-length cutting.

How to choose

The choice depends on the application. If you need to cut along the width direction, a cross cutter is the better choice. If you need to cut along the length direction, a longitudinal cutter fits better. Machine performance, precision, speed, and cost also need to be considered together.

Beyond slitting machine parts, our precision component customization serves more than one industry. We machine medical device components, filling machinery parts, printing machinery parts, yacht precision components, RC car precision components, food machinery parts, and tobacco packaging machinery parts. Hansheng Automation works from customer drawings and delivers one-off or batch parts to the required material, tolerance, and surface finish. Our scope is precision components, not complete machines.
