A front feeding system for a CNC shearing machine automates sheet positioning and feeding before cutting. It uses servo driven motion and a CNC control system to improve positioning consistency, reduce manual handling, and support continuous sheet metal processing. Depending on the machine configuration, it can also provide automatic retraction, multiple operating modes, and protection against positioning or system faults.
Precise Positioning and Automatic Feeding
The front feeding system uses precision ball screws and linear guides, driven by digital AC servo motors, to position the sheet accurately.
Steel balls and brushes are arranged alternately across the feeding table to help the sheet move smoothly while reducing resistance during handling.
On systems with three CNC controlled axes, the motor positioning speed can be adjusted according to production requirements. The control system also allows the reference points of two axes to be modified through parameter settings, providing flexibility when calibrating the positioning values.
Automatic Retraction During Shearing
The system includes an automatic retraction function that moves the feeding frame away during the cutting operation. This helps prevent unwanted contact and friction between the sheet and the blades, reducing the risk of surface damage and premature blade wear.
The retraction sequence is coordinated with the cutting cycle according to the installed control system.
Multiple Operating Modes
The front feeding system supports adjustment, manual, and semi-automatic modes. These options allow operators to set up the machine, perform manual positioning, or carry out repeated feeding operations as required by the production task.
High Repeat Positioning Accuracy
After the machine is powered off and restarted, the control system can return the configured axes to their reference points through the supported homing procedure. This helps restore the positioning reference and maintain repeatability during consecutive cutting operations.
The actual repeat positioning accuracy depends on the servo system, mechanical components, reference calibration, and control configuration.
Efficient Cutting and Sheet Handling
Compared with conventional shearing machines that rely primarily on rear backgauge positioning and manual handling, a front feeding system can improve positioning consistency and reduce operator intervention.
Depending on the equipment configuration, the system can support automatic programming, positioning, cutting cycle coordination, sheet feeding, and return to its initial position. These functions help streamline material handling and increase productivity when processing sheets of different sizes.
Integrated Protection Functions
The front feeding system may include several protective functions, depending on its hardware and control configuration.
Travel limit protection
When an axis reaches its programmed travel limit, the system stops further movement to help prevent collisions or mechanical damage.
Fault diagnosis and alarms
The control system monitors software, controller, and electrical faults. When a fault is detected, it displays an alarm to alert the operator and support troubleshooting.
Pneumatic pressure protection
If the air pressure falls below the required level, the system can trigger an alarm and stop the relevant operation to protect pneumatic components and prevent unreliable clamping or feeding.
Voltage protection
If the supply voltage moves outside the permitted range, the system can issue an alarm and stop operation to protect the servo drives and electrical components.
The available protection functions and their response depend on the machine's electrical and pneumatic design.
Servo Driven Clamping and Control Software
The system uses pneumatic automatic clamps to hold the sheet during feeding. The clamps provide secure gripping and help maintain stable material positioning during movement.
The supporting control software coordinates axis positioning, feeding sequences, and the relevant protection functions. Correct parameter settings and calibration are necessary to achieve consistent operation.
