How to Properly Maintain an Automatic Boxed Balm Packaging Machine

Maintenance of an automatic boxed balm packaging machine comes down to four areas: scheduled inspection and parts replacement, environment control, power and wiring safety, and cleaning and corrosion protection.

 

1. Scheduled inspection and parts replacement

Wear part inspection. Once a week, visually inspect transmission parts (chains, gears, bearings) and seals (rubber rings, gaskets), focusing on cracks, deformation, or excessive wear. A slack chain reduces packaging accuracy, so adjust tension or replace it promptly.

Wear part replacement. Replace high-use components on the schedule given in the machine manual, usually every 3 to 6 months. These include heating modules, cutters, and sensors. Replace a dulled cutter immediately, or packaging material will tear and seals will fail.

Lubrication. Add dedicated lubricant to moving parts such as guides and sliders once a month to reduce friction wear. A dry guide can cause the box to jam and slow production. For guide sliders, cutter seats, and transmission gears, we can machine to customer drawings, for single pieces or small batches, with material and heat treatment specified by the drawing.

 

2. Environment control

Dry environment. Keep the machine indoors at humidity below 60%, so moisture does not short electrical components or rust metal parts. In southern China during the plum rain season, use a dehumidifier to control humidity.

Keep away from hazards. Do not store flammable or explosive materials (alcohol, solvents) or strongly corrosive chemicals (concentrated sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid) within 5 meters, to prevent leakage accidents.

Ventilation. Leave at least 30 cm of heat dissipation space behind the machine. Poor heat dissipation can overheat the motor and cause shutdown.

 

3. Power and wiring safety

Daily check. Before startup, check the power cord for damage and the plug for looseness, focusing on oxidation or burning at the terminals. If the plug feels hot, stop the machine and inspect immediately.

Grounding protection. Test the grounding resistance monthly and make sure it is below 4Ω to prevent electric shock.

Voltage stability. Use a voltage regulator to hold input voltage within 220V ±10%, so fluctuations do not damage the inverter or PLC control module.

 

4. Cleaning and corrosion protection

Daily cleaning. Wipe the housing with a dry cloth to remove balm residue or dust, so buildup does not seep into internal circuits. After cutting power, blow compressed air through the hopper, conveyor belt, and other areas to clear residue and prevent blockage or bacterial growth.

Key areas. Wipe the heating plate surface with an alcohol swab weekly to remove carbonized balm and keep sealing temperature even. Clean the photoelectric sensor lens monthly with a soft brush to prevent dust from blocking detection.

Rust prevention. Apply rust preventive oil to unpainted metal parts such as brackets and screws, especially in humid coastal areas.

 

5. Other notes

Operating discipline. Train operators to start and stop the machine by procedure, avoiding frequent emergency stops that cause mechanical shock. A sudden power cut can damage the servo motor encoder.

Spare parts. Keep wear parts (cutters, belts) and key electrical components (relays, contactors) in stock to shorten downtime.

Maintenance records. Keep a machine maintenance file recording each inspection date, replaced parts, and abnormal conditions, to support later optimization of the maintenance cycle.
