To achieve a bright, mirror-like cut surface on medium and thick carbon steel, a laser cutting machine mainly adjusts power, gas pressure, nozzle size, focus, and cutting speed. The following explains each item.
Adjust cutting power
Sheet thickness determines cutting power. Greater thickness needs more power. Smaller thickness needs less power. Adjust power precisely according to actual sheet thickness. Too high or too low power lowers cut surface quality.
Adjust cutting gas pressure
During oxygen cutting of carbon steel, material combustion releases a lot of heat, so oxygen pressure must not be too high. Within the cutting range, lower gas pressure gives a brighter cut surface. To ensure cutting stability, a certain amount is usually added to the base pressure to balance cut quality and stability.
Adjust nozzle size
Nozzle size affects beam quality, oxygen purity, and gas flow. A smaller nozzle gives better beam quality, higher oxygen purity, and lower gas flow, which helps achieve bright surface cutting. During bright surface cutting, lower the nozzle height as much as possible to improve cut quality.
Adjust cutting focus
The beam emitted by the fiber laser head has a certain diameter. Bright surface cutting usually uses a smaller nozzle. Too large a focus causes nozzle heating and affects cut quality and stability. Adjust the cutting focus precisely so the beam focuses accurately on the cut surface.
Control cutting speed
Cutting speed has a major effect on cut quality. Too fast a speed causes incomplete combustion of carbon steel and affects cut surface smoothness. Too slow a speed causes excessive combustion, melting, and deformation of carbon steel. On the premise that the carbon steel does not deform, increase cutting speed as much as possible to achieve fast, high-quality cutting.
Practical notes
Operators need to adjust the above parameters flexibly according to sheet material, thickness, and cutting requirements. Through continuous practice and process improvement, they gradually master bright surface cutting techniques. At the same time, maintain and service the laser cutting machine to keep it in good condition and improve cutting quality and efficiency.
