A paper machine water needle is a high-pressure fluid assist device used in wet end sheet threading. It uses a high-pressure water jet to pull, transfer, and position the wet sheet. This keeps production continuous and stable and greatly lowers sheet break risk during threading.

Pulling and transferring the wet sheet

After the wire and press sections, the newly formed wet sheet has weak fiber bonding and very low mechanical strength. It cannot be pulled directly by mechanical nip rolls. The water needle uses a high-pressure water jet to support and carry the wet sheet. It lifts the sheet from the forming fabric or press felt and moves it precisely to the guide roll of the dryer section. This connects the wet end to the dry end.

For these threading systems, Hansheng Automation can machine custom water needle nozzles, high-pressure fittings, and guide components from customer drawings, in single pieces or small batches.

Sheet centering adjustment

By adjusting water pressure and spray angle at different positions, the water needle corrects sheet drift. It keeps the sheet at the center of the machine. This avoids wrinkles, edge damage, and width variation in the finished paper.

Lower threading loss and higher efficiency

Compared with traditional mechanical threading, the high-pressure water jet applies a softer, more even force. It does not scratch or tear the wet sheet. This greatly reduces sheet breaks during threading and raises continuous run time and product qualification rate.

Auxiliary cleaning of equipment surfaces

In some conditions, the high-pressure water jet also cleans paper lint and stock residue from dryer cylinder surfaces and guide rolls. This keeps equipment surfaces clean and prevents contamination of the following sheet.

Safety notes

The working pressure of a paper machine water needle is usually 0.5 to 1.5 MPa. A high-pressure water jet can bruise or puncture soft tissue. Follow the manufacturer's safety procedure during operation and maintenance. Do not let the body contact the jet directly.

Beyond paper machine water needle parts, our precision component customization serves more than one industry. We machine yacht precision components, RC car precision components, tobacco packaging machinery parts, filling machinery parts, printing machinery parts, food machinery parts, and medical device components. Hansheng Automation works from customer drawings and delivers one-off or batch parts to the required material, tolerance, and surface finish. Our scope is precision components, not complete machines.
