A battery separator coating machine is dedicated equipment for separator production in energy storage batteries, lithium-ion batteries, and similar applications. The core process has four stages: unwinding, coating, drying, and rewinding. Precise control at each stage keeps the coating uniform and well bonded.

Unwinding

Rolled battery separator is mounted at the unwinding station. The unwind mechanism releases separator continuously while maintaining stable running tension and speed. This prevents stretching, deformation, or edge wandering and provides a stable substrate for coating.

Coating, the core step

This step decides separator coating quality. There are three common methods.

Doctor blade coating: the gap between the doctor blade and separator is adjusted to scrape coating evenly onto the separator surface. It controls coating thickness precisely and suits most standard coating types.

Roll coating: coating first attaches to the application roller, then transfers to the separator through roller contact. It suits large-area continuous coating.

Slot die coating: coating is extruded through a precision slot die and applied directly to the separator. Thickness consistency is high. It is often used for high-end lithium battery separator production.

When doctor blades, coating rollers, or slot dies need replacement, we machine these precision parts from customer drawings in single pieces or small batches.

Drying

The coated separator enters the drying system. Heated air or infrared radiation removes solvent, so the coating cures and bonds to the separator surface. Temperature, air speed, and drying time need precise control to avoid cracking, wrinkling, or peeling.

Rewinding

After drying and quality inspection, qualified separator is rewound into finished rolls by the rewinding unit. This makes storage, transport, and downstream battery production easier.

Our precision parts custom machining is not limited to battery separator coating equipment. We also produce non-standard components for filling machinery, tobacco packaging machinery, yacht hardware, RC car parts, medical devices, printing equipment, and food machinery. Hansheng Automation supports single-piece and small-batch production from customer drawings. We focus on precision parts machining and delivery, which helps maintenance and replacement across different industries.
