The adjustment sequence has three stages: base calibration, zone-by-zone gap tuning, and test coating to lock in accuracy.

Preparation and safety checks

Disconnect the main power supply first. Hang a maintenance warning sign to prevent accidental startup.

Clean residual hydrogel slurry from the coating head, blade edge, and surrounding area. Wipe with a lint-free soft cloth and a dedicated cleaning agent. This prevents foreign matter from jamming the blade.

Check the blade edge for chipping or a rolled edge. If wear is light, lap it flat by hand with an oilstone. If wear is severe, replace the blade. When blade holders, coating head parts, or rollers need replacement, we can machine these precision components from customer drawings in single pieces or small batches.

Prepare the calibration tools: feeler gauge, torque wrench, spirit level, and dial indicator.

Machine level and frame calibration

2.1 Frame level calibration

Place the spirit level on the infeed roller, outfeed roller, and coating head frame. Adjust the height of the support feet. Keep the machine level error within 0.05 mm/m.

2.2 Coating head parallelism calibration

Move the coating head to the middle of its stroke. Use a dial indicator to measure parallelism between the coating head and the backup roller at several points across the coating width. Adjust the adjustment screws on both sides. Make sure parallelism error is ≤0.02 mm.

Initial blade gap adjustment

3.1 Overall gap rough adjustment

Close the blade and observe how the edge contacts. If a local gap exists, loosen the fixing bolts on both sides first. Use the coarse adjustment knobs on both sides of the coating head to set the overall gap. Set the initial gap to 1.1 times the required coating thickness, leaving room for fine adjustment. Then tighten the fixing bolts gradually.

3.2 Zone gap fine adjustment

Divide the coating head into 3 to 5 zones across the coating width. Insert a feeler gauge into the blade gap at each zone. Adjust the fine adjustment screw for that zone. Keep the gap error in each zone within ±0.005 mm.

Note: Do not tighten the fine adjustment screws all at once. Adjust in stages. This avoids uneven stress on the blade edge and prevents chipping.

Test coating and accuracy correction

4.1 Low-speed test coating

Start the machine at low speed. Pour the mixed hydrogel slurry into the tank. Watch whether the coating thickness is uniform. Check for local thick areas, thin areas, or gaps.

4.2 Local correction

If thickness is uneven in one area, use the fine adjustment screw to adjust the blade gap in that zone. Repeat until coating thickness is uniform.

4.3 Thickness verification

Use a coating thickness gauge to sample and measure at multiple points across the coating width. Make sure actual coating thickness deviation from the design value is ≤±3%.

Lock in accuracy

Tighten all fine adjustment screws and fixing bolts. Use a torque wrench to the torque value specified in the equipment manual. This prevents loosening during operation.

Use the dial indicator again to recheck parallelism and gap accuracy. After confirmation, install the coating head guard cover and return the machine to normal operation mode.

Notes

  • Wear protective gloves and goggles during blade adjustment. Avoid cuts and skin contact with slurry.
  • Do not touch the blade edge directly during fine adjustment. Prevent cuts.
  • Blade adjustment parameters differ by hydrogel coating machine model. Follow the original manufacturer manual strictly.

Our precision custom machining work goes beyond hydrogel coating machine parts. We also produce non-standard components for medical devices, printing equipment, food machinery, yacht hardware, RC car parts, tobacco packaging machinery, and filling machinery. Hansheng Automation supports single-piece and small-batch production from customer drawings. We focus on precision parts machining and delivery, which helps maintenance and replacement across different industries.
