Transverse sealing failure and air leakage in vertical granular packing machines can be traced to several factors, including temperature, pressure, equipment installation, material entrapment, and packaging film quality. The causes and corresponding solutions are as follows.
1. Temperature issues
Cause: The transverse sealing temperature has not reached the required level for proper sealing, resulting in a weak seal and air leakage.
Solutions:
Increase the transverse sealing temperature.
If the temperature fails to rise, check the following:
Inspect the temperature controller for damage and replace it if necessary.
Check the temperature control wiring for incorrect connections and correct any wiring errors.
Inspect the thermocouple for improper installation or damage, and reinstall or replace it as needed.
2. Pressure issues
Cause: Insufficient sealing pressure at the transverse sealing unit affects sealing quality, causing incomplete sealing and air leakage.
Solution:
Adjust the machine pressure to increase the sealing force at the transverse seal.
3. Equipment installation issues
Cause: The transverse sealing rollers are not aligned during installation, or the contact surfaces are uneven, leading to an incomplete seal.
Solution:
Adjust the contact surfaces of the sealing rollers to ensure flatness and alignment.
Perform a sealing test using A4 paper to check whether the rollers are properly aligned and whether the texture depth is uniform.
4. Material entrapment issues
Cause: Material is trapped at the sealing area during sealing, which compromises the transverse seal and causes air leakage.
Solution:
Adjust the filling speed to prevent material from being caught at the sealing point.
For transverse sealing rollers, thermocouples, and pressure adjustment components, Hansheng Automation can provide custom precision machining according to equipment specifications, supporting improved seal integrity and reduced air leakage in vertical granular packing machines.
5. Packaging film quality issues
Cause: If air leakage persists after the above adjustments have been made, the packaging film itself may be of poor quality or unsuitable for the sealing conditions.
Solution:
Replace the packaging film with a different type or grade and retest the sealing performance.
