Marelli Has Secured A Global OEM Order To Supply Battery Cold Plates For Electric Vehicles

According to foreign media reports, Marelli stated that the company has signed a contract with a global car manufacturer to provide a cold plate solution for its future electric vehicle batteries.


It is reported that the supply will start in 2024 and plans to deliver approximately 5 million battery cold plates to the Chinese, North American, and European markets within five years. Marelli claims that the company will produce these battery cold plates in China, Mexico, and Romania.

Marelli's battery cold plate adopts a point and pit design, which optimizes heat exchange while maintaining the temperature of the battery unit unchanged. As batteries are the only source of power for electric vehicles, doing so can improve the battery performance of electric vehicles. Efficient thermal management can not only extend battery life and increase range, but also improve drive system performance and enhance fast charging capability.


Marelli stated that the battery cold plate is one of the technical products designed by Marelli for different customers. It is "very flat" and "compact", making it easy to integrate and assemble inside the car. In addition, the compatibility design of this technology allows it to change size according to customer needs.

In 2019, private equity firm KKR completed the acquisition of Magneti Marelli from former Fiat Chrysler and merged the company with its portfolio company Calsonic Kansei. Subsequently, Marelli was officially established with its headquarters located in Saitama Prefecture, Japan.


According to foreign media reports, in 2022, Marelli sold $12.2 billion worth of products to global car manufacturers, ranking 26th on the US Automotive News Global Parts Supplier Top 100 list.
