An ultrafine impact mill combines impact pulverization and particle classification to continuously reduce materials to fine or ultrafine particle sizes. The main process includes feeding, impact grinding, classification, and product collection.
1. Material Feeding
The material is evenly introduced into the grinding chamber through a screw feeder or other controlled feeding device. A stable feed rate helps maintain consistent grinding conditions while reducing the risk of blockage and overload.
2. Impact Pulverization
Inside the grinding chamber, high-speed impact hammers, blades, or other grinding elements rotate at several thousand revolutions per minute.
The incoming material is subjected to repeated impact, collision, compression, and friction between the rotating components and the surrounding grinding surfaces. The resulting mechanical forces progressively break the particles down to the required fine particle size.
3. Particle Classification
After grinding, the processed material enters the classification zone. A centrifugal classifier separates the particles according to size.
Coarse particles are redirected to the grinding chamber for further processing, while qualified fine particles are carried by the airflow toward the collection system. Adjusting the classifier speed allows operators to control the separation point and adapt the finished particle size to different applications.
4. Product Collection
The classified powder enters the collection system for gas-solid separation. A cyclone separator can collect the relatively coarse fraction, while a filter bag or pulse dust collector captures finer particles.
A properly configured collection system can improve material recovery while limiting the release of fine powder into the working environment. The actual recovery efficiency depends on the equipment configuration, material properties, and operating conditions.
Integrated Grinding and Classification
The key feature of an ultrafine impact mill is the coordinated operation of the high-speed impact grinding unit, dynamic classifier, airflow system, and collection equipment. Grinding and classification form a continuous circulation process, allowing oversized particles to return for further pulverization while qualified powder is discharged.
