A horizontal mixer uses a trough-shaped body with two counter-rotating shafts. The blades are set at an angle, so they push material in both axial and radial directions. That combined motion folds the batch quickly and brings it to uniform condition.

How the Mixing Action Works

Counter-Rotating Blades and Material Flow

The gearbox drives the shafts, and the blade angle determines how the material moves. As the blades turn, the effect of gravity on the material is reduced. Differences in particle size and specific gravity between ingredients matter less during mixing because the material is constantly lifted, thrown, and exchanged. Intensive agitation shortens the mixing cycle, so a batch reaches uniformity faster than in a simple drum mixer.

Handling Differences in Density and Particle Size

Even when ingredients differ in specific gravity or particle size, the staggered blade arrangement keeps them tumbling and scattering. This produces good uniformity with low residue. Horizontal mixers suit blends of two or more fertilizers and additive premixes where small-dose ingredients must be distributed evenly.

Product Features of Horizontal Mixers

Uniformity and Low Residue

The rotor design is the main reason horizontal mixers achieve high uniformity. The minimum clearance between rotor and shell can be adjusted to near zero, which reduces material left in the trough after discharge. Larger lumps can also be broken down during mixing. The overall structure is compact, and access for operation and maintenance is straightforward.

Maintenance Practice

Maintenance is a routine task, not a one-time fix. It should be coordinated with operation and inspection schedules. A dedicated person should check the machine on shift, watching blade wear, shaft seals, bearing temperature, and discharge cleanliness. Catching wear early prevents both contamination between batches and unexpected downtime. Hansheng Automation can machine replacement blades, shafts, and wear parts to customer drawings when original parts are no longer available or need modification.

Where Horizontal Mixers Fit

Horizontal mixers are common in fertilizer blending, feed premix production, and chemical powder processing. They work best when the formula includes ingredients with different bulk densities, or when batch uniformity and low residue are both required. Mixing time, blade clearance, and shaft speed should be set for the actual material rather than copied from a general recommendation.

Our precision custom machining capability is not limited to horizontal mixers. Hansheng Automation also produces parts for printing machinery, medical devices, and filling machinery, along with precision components for yachts and RC cars. From one-off parts to small batch runs, we machine to drawing and deliver parts ready for assembly.
