A 40W CO2 laser cutter is a small or desktop-level machine, not a high-power industrial cutting machine. Its power is limited. It mainly cuts and engraves non-metal materials. It cannot cut thick metal such as carbon steel or stainless steel. Its actual working range is as follows.

Non-metal sheets
Acrylic: can cut 3 to 10 mm, depending on power and speed. The cut face is fairly transparent and can be polished.
Wood, plywood, MDF: can cut 3 to 6 mm and can also engrave.
PVC is not recommended. It releases corrosive gas.
Some plastics can be cut, but confirm the material to avoid toxic gas.

Leather, fabric, paper
It can cut and engrave leather, fabric, paper, and cardboard. It suits clothing, bags, crafts, and packaging prototypes.

Engraving
It can engrave patterns and text on wood, acrylic, glass, ceramics, and coated metal surfaces.

What it cannot do
It cannot cut thick metal. It cannot cut 50 mm carbon steel. It cannot cut 40 mm stainless steel. CO2 lasers have high reflectivity on metal, and 40W is not enough to cut metal sheets.

Safety
Use exhaust ventilation, safety goggles, and a fire extinguisher. Do not cut PVC, polycarbonate, or other materials that release toxic gas.

We can machine custom nozzles, fixtures, protective lens holders, and other precision parts for laser cutting machines from customer drawings, for single-piece or low-volume production.

Our custom precision component machining capability is not limited to laser cutting equipment. Beyond cutting nozzles, fixtures, and protective lens holders, we also machine yacht precision components, RC car structural parts, medical device parts, and non-standard parts for tobacco packaging machinery, filling machinery, and food machinery. Hansheng Automation works from customer drawings and production quantities to deliver single-piece or low-volume precision machining.
