A pharmaceutical filling machine typically consists of five major systems: the material supply system, filling system, capping and sealing system, control and monitoring system, and cleaning and auxiliary systems.
Different pharmaceutical formulations, containers, and production processes require different mechanical configurations. Many positioning fixtures, filling heads, shafts, bushings, and mounting components therefore need to be custom manufactured.
Hansheng Automation provides precision machining of custom mechanical components based on customer-supplied 2D drawings, 3D models, and assembly requirements.
1. Material Supply System
1.1 Storage and Transfer Components
The storage tank temporarily holds the pharmaceutical liquid. Tanks are commonly manufactured from 316L stainless steel and may include mechanical agitators or heating/cooling jackets to maintain material uniformity and temperature stability.
The transfer pump delivers the material from the storage tank to the filling system. Pump selection depends on the liquid's viscosity, flow characteristics, and processing requirements.
1.2 Piping and Filtration Components
Pharmaceutical liquids are generally transferred through sanitary piping. 316L stainless steel piping with quick-clamp connections facilitates cleaning, maintenance, and disassembly.
Depending on the production process, sterilizing filters may also be installed to filter the material before it enters the filling system.
2. Filling System
2.1 Filling Valves and Nozzles
The filling valve controls the flow of pharmaceutical liquid into the container. Different valve designs, such as piston, gravity, or vacuum filling valves, can be selected according to the material and filling method.
The filling nozzle must maintain accurate alignment with the bottle opening. Anti-drip structures or air-blow functions can also be incorporated to reduce liquid residue after filling.
We can machine filling nozzles, valve connectors, positioning sleeves, and related precision components according to customer drawings, with controlled bore dimensions, fits, and coaxiality.
2.2 Bottle Positioning and Conveying Components
Different containers, such as ampoules, vials, and plastic bottles, require different positioning methods. Bottle holders, clamps, and positioning fixtures are therefore often customized to match the container geometry.
The conveying system may use intermittent chain conveyors or continuous rotary tables, combined with photoelectric sensors for bottle detection and positioning.
Hansheng Automation supports custom machining of bottle clamps, positioning blocks, support brackets, rotary-table components, and other precision mechanical parts according to customer drawings.
3. Sealing and Capping System
3.1 Sealing Equipment
Different pharmaceutical containers require different sealing methods.
Ampoules may be sealed using flame or high-frequency induction methods. Vials commonly use aluminum-plastic cap crimping, while oral liquid bottles may use rotary capping systems.
Stable bottle positioning and controlled sealing pressure are important for preventing loose seals, tilted caps, and inconsistent sealing results.
3.2 Positioning and Clamping Fixtures
During sealing, fixtures securely hold the container and maintain accurate alignment between the bottle neck and sealing mechanism.
We can manufacture custom sealing fixtures, positioning sleeves, clamping blocks, mounting brackets, and other non-standard components according to customer drawings, with material and surface-treatment options selected according to the operating environment.
4. Control and Monitoring System
4.1 PLC and HMI
The PLC coordinates filling, conveying, positioning, and sealing operations. The HMI touchscreen allows operators to set and monitor filling volume, production speed, machine status, and other operating parameters.
4.2 Sensors
- Photoelectric sensors detect bottle position and missing bottles.
- Pressure and flow sensors monitor pipeline pressure and material flow and can trigger alarms when abnormal conditions occur.
- Temperature sensors monitor the temperature of storage-tank jackets and specific sealing areas to maintain process stability.
4.3 Safety Protection
The machine can include emergency-stop buttons, overload protection, pressure alarms, and automatic stop functions for conditions such as missing bottles or insufficient material.
5. Cleaning and Sterilization System
5.1 CIP System
A CIP (Clean-in-Place) system uses spray devices to circulate cleaning solutions through storage tanks, pipelines, and filling valves, reducing the need for manual disassembly.
Hansheng Automation can manufacture custom connectors, mounting components, and mechanical parts for CIP-related assemblies according to customer drawings.
5.2 Steam Sterilization Interface
For processes requiring sterilization, the equipment can be connected to the facility's steam system. Interface dimensions and mounting configurations are customized according to the equipment and production environment.
6. Cleanroom Protection and Machine Frame
6.1 Local Clean-Air Protection
For sterile or clean production environments, a local clean-air enclosure can be installed around the filling area to protect critical filling operations from external contamination.
6.2 Liquid Collection System
A dedicated collection system can collect small amounts of liquid dripping or overflow during filling, helping prevent contamination of the machine and production area.
6.3 Machine Frame and Enclosure
The machine frame and enclosure provide structural support and protection for internal mechanisms. Materials and surface treatments are selected according to the requirements of the pharmaceutical production environment.
7. Custom Precision Machining for Filling Machine Components
Pharmaceutical filling machines contain many non-standard mechanical components that must match specific bottle dimensions, machine structures, and production processes.
We can manufacture precision components based on customer 2D drawings, 3D models, or assembly requirements, including positioning fixtures, clamping blocks, filling nozzles, valve connectors, shafts, bushings, mounting brackets, and guide components.
Depending on the component structure and technical requirements, we can use CNC turning, CNC milling, and precision grinding to control critical dimensions, tolerances, fits, and surface roughness. This drawing-based manufacturing approach allows each component to accurately match the intended filling machine assembly.
