Side-seal packaging machines are better suited for outer wrapping of flat, large, multi-piece, or regularly shaped irregular products. Pillow packaging machines are more suitable for continuous high-speed wrapping of long, small, single-piece products.
I. Application Scenarios of Side-Seal Packaging Machines
1. Core Product Types
Flat and large products: Items such as A4-sized books, standard cartons, decorative panels, acrylic sheets, and appliance accessory trays. These products have a large flat surface and do not require continuous wrapping. Side-seal packaging can keep the product surface free from compression and deformation during sealing.
Multi-piece combination products: Products such as stationery sets, gift-boxed snacks, and multiple small items packed together for e-commerce. The products are placed into a bag as a group, and the sides and ends are sealed to ensure overall integrity and protection.
Regularly shaped irregular products: Items such as square cosmetic boxes and hardware tool kits that only need outer dust and moisture protection.
2. Scenario Limitations
Packaging speed is typically 30–80 packages per minute, making it suitable for low to medium output scenarios.
It is not suitable for slender or small-diameter cylindrical products, as these tend to shift during conveying and cause misalignment.
Maximum single-bag size is limited by the machine format, generally not exceeding 1200 mm in width and 800 mm in height.
II. Application Scenarios of Pillow Packaging Machines
1. Core Product Types
Long single-piece products: Items such as sausages, biscuit sticks, ice cream bars, toothbrushes, hardware screws, and electronic wires. Continuous roll film is wrapped around the product and then heat-sealed and cut to form individual sealed packages.
Small flat single-piece products: Items such as button batteries, chewing gum, and small electronic components. These can be packaged at high speed, with some high-speed models reaching 200–300 packages per minute.
Small products with trays: Items such as bread on plastic trays or frozen dumpling boxes that need overall wrapping protection.
2. Scenario Limitations
Maximum package size is usually limited to 600 mm in length and 200 mm in width, so this machine cannot handle large products as a whole.
It is not suitable for multi-piece non-long products that require overall outer wrapping.
For soft, fragile products without trays, continuous wrapping can easily cause compression and deformation.
When standard pillow packaging machines cannot accommodate special product lengths, widths, or unusual bag formats, customized forming collars and sealing jaw sets are often required. Hansheng Automation can machine these non-standard parts according to customer-supplied drawings.
