If a tandem wire drawing machine breaks wire often, the cause usually sits in one of three areas: raw material quality, equipment condition, or process settings. Work through them in order instead of changing one parameter at random.

Raw material problems

Wire quality is the base. If the material is uneven, with impurities, cracks, or hardness variation inside, stress concentrates at those weak points during drawing and causes a break. Surface defects such as scratches and pits also become starting points for fracture.

Equipment problems

This is the most common fault area.

Die wear: die bore diameter grows with wear or the inner wall becomes rough. The wire then sees uneven force as it passes and can break.

Tension control system fault: a failed tension sensor or an unstable control system can create a momentary tension spike that snaps the wire.

Guide wheel fault: a guide wheel that turns poorly, has a worn surface, or is installed out of position changes the wire path and force state, which leads to breakage.

When dies, guide wheels, or tension rollers reach their wear limit, we machine replacements from customer drawings in single pieces or small batches.

Improper process settings

Settings directly affect the drawing process.

Drawing speed too high: at excessive speed, the deformation work and pulling force on the wire in a short time exceed its limit, causing fracture.

Compression ratio too large: if the single-pass cross section reduction is set too high, the wire deforms too severely, internal cracks form, and it breaks. Distribute the reduction ratio for each pass properly.

Our precision custom machining is not limited to tandem wire drawing machine parts. Hansheng Automation also produces non-standard components for filling machinery, tobacco packaging machinery, printing equipment, medical device production equipment, food processing lines, yacht hardware, and RC car components. We work from customer drawings for single pieces or small batches. The focus stays on precision parts machining and delivery, which keeps maintenance and replacement flexible across different industries.
