The operation of an automatic wire bonding machine should follow standardized steps to ensure bonding accuracy and equipment safety.

 

Preparation

Check the equipment: Confirm that the exterior is free from damage, all components are firmly connected, the power cord and air lines are normal, and the emergency stop function is working.

Prepare materials and tools: Gather the workpieces to be bonded, bonding wire, flux, and auxiliary tools such as tweezers and scissors.

Set parameters: According to the workpiece material and wire type, adjust the bonding time, temperature, pressure, and other parameters through the control panel. It is advisable to determine the optimal values through trial bonding. The wire tension is typically referenced in the range of 10–50 gf, depending on the wire diameter.

 

Installing the Workpiece and Bonding Wire

Fix the workpiece: Secure the workpiece precisely on the worktable to ensure stability and prevent displacement. For irregularly shaped or small-batch workpieces, Hansheng Automation can custom-machine dedicated positioning fixtures based on the workpiece contour, with repeatable positioning accuracy controlled within ±0.01 mm.

Load the bonding wire: Place the bonding wire into the wire feeding mechanism and adjust the feeding speed and tension to ensure smooth delivery without jamming. If consumable parts such as wire guide rollers or tension adjustment plates need replacement, we can also provide precision machining according to the original dimensions.

 

Equipment Debugging

Dry run test: Start the equipment in idle mode and observe whether the wire feeding mechanism and the movement path of the bonding head are normal, with no abnormal vibration or noise.

Adjust the bonding head: Calibrate the height and angle of the bonding head according to the workpiece position so that the bonding point is accurately aligned. The tip geometry of the bonding head directly affects energy transfer, so its wear condition should be checked regularly and replaced or custom-machined when necessary.

 

Starting the Bonding Process

Start the bonding program: After confirming that debugging is correct, start the equipment and allow it to bond according to the preset program.

Monitor in real time: The operator should closely observe the quality of the bond points and the wire feeding status. If insufficient bonding, missed bonding, or tail lifting is found, the machine should be stopped immediately for correction to avoid batch defects.

 

Post-Bonding Treatment

Quality inspection: Check the firmness of the bond points. Pull testing or visual inspection can be used to exclude defects such as weak bonding or missed bonding.

Clean the work area: Remove welding slag and debris, store finished workpieces properly, and keep the working environment tidy.

Shutdown and Maintenance

After turning off the power, wipe the equipment surface and check the wear condition of consumable parts such as wire feeding wheels, bonding wedges, and positioning clamps, so that the machine is ready for the next use. Precision consumable parts can be supplied through custom manufacturing based on customer drawings, ensuring that dimensions and surface roughness meet production line requirements.
