For food processing, the better fit is a food-grade collaborative arc welding robot with fully enclosed IP69K protection. Pair it with an integrated workstation that moves materials in sync. A standard industrial welding robot is not suitable.

What the alternative needs

Protection: IP69K. The robot has to survive high-pressure washdown with food-grade sanitizers above 80°C, including sodium hypochlorite and hydrogen peroxide. It also needs no hygiene dead spots and must meet GB 14881-2013 for cleanable surfaces and no shedding.

Robot type: Go collaborative, not conventional articulated. The unit must meet ISO/TS 15066 for human-robot collaboration, with collision force ≤150 N. That allows operation without large safety fencing, supports flexible layouts in food workshops, and reduces material transfer steps.

Integrated welding package: Use a food-grade arc welding system. The torch and wire feeder are 304/316 food-grade stainless steel. The wire is lead-free and cadmium-free food-grade material so welding contaminants do not enter food.

Where it applies and where it does not

The setup is only for metal structural parts in food processing, such as food conveyor frames, stainless steel tanks, and packaging machinery supports.

It is not for high-precision welding of food precision equipment such as filling valves and metering parts. Those still need dedicated precision welding equipment.

Operation and safety

All welding consumables and surface treatment agents must meet the GB 4806 series food contact material standards.

After each day's work, clean the equipment according to the food workshop disinfection procedure. Remove welding slag and oil residue.

Do the welding in a semi-enclosed, separate area so fumes do not contaminate food processing areas.
