How to remove and replace the chuck of the electric drill

The disassembly and replacement of the handheld drill chuck requires a thorough disconnection of the power supply (plugging and unplugging the power plug/removing the rechargeable battery). Most chucks require the removal of the internal anti tooth fixing screws before separating the chuck body from the motor shaft. It is necessary to distinguish between quick change and traditional wrench chuck structures for operation
1, Pre security preparation
1. Thoroughly disconnect the power supply of the handheld drill: unplug the power plug for the plug-in model, remove the battery pack for the charging model, and do not operate it while it is powered on to avoid accidentally triggering the switch and causing the chuck to rotate and injure people.
2. Open the chuck to the maximum opening: Rotate the chuck sleeve to fully open the three jaws, exposing the fixing screws inside the chuck.
2, Remove the internal fixing screws
1. Use a screwdriver (cross/hexagonal) that matches the screw, insert it into the fully opened chuck, and find the central fixing screw. The screw is designed with reverse threads: clockwise rotation can loosen it, counterclockwise rotation is tightening. Do not twist it in the opposite direction to cause the screw to slip.
2. Slowly remove the fixing screws completely and store them properly to avoid loss.
3, Separate the clamp body from the motor shaft
(1) Traditional wrench type chuck (with dedicated disassembly wrench)
1. Use a matching or compatible wrench to clamp the hexagonal flange surface at the end of the chuck, wrap the electric drill body with a towel to fix the motor shaft and prevent slipping.
2. Rotate the chuck sleeve counterclockwise to remove the chuck from the motor shaft; If the clamp is too tight, a rubber hammer can be gently tapped on the wrench handle to assist in loosening. It is forbidden to directly tap the surface of the clamp with a metal hammer to damage the coating or threads.
(2) Quick change chuck (without dedicated wrench, with side release button)
1. Press and hold the lock release button on the side of the chuck, keeping it pressed and not releasing.
2. Rotate the chuck sleeve counterclockwise to directly separate the chuck from the motor shaft; A few quick change clamps still need to remove the internal fixing screws before performing this step.
4, Install a new clamp head
1. Use a clean cloth to clean the oil stains, iron filings, and debris on the surface of the motor shaft, ensuring that the installation surface is flat and free of foreign objects.
2. Align the new chuck with the motor shaft, rotate the chuck sleeve clockwise until it fully fits the shaft end, tighten it moderately, and avoid damaging the threads or chuck structure due to over tightening.
3. Reinstall the internal fixing screws and tighten them counterclockwise to secure them in place (matching the reverse thread design). Do not overtighten and prevent the screws from slipping.
4. Manually open and close the clamp to test its smoothness, confirm that there is no lag, reinstall the battery or plug it in, and perform a low-speed test to ensure normal operation.
If the clamp becomes loose and slips after installation, check whether the motor shaft thread is slipping, and replace the motor shaft if necessary.
