The thinnest stainless steel a handheld laser welding machine can weld is 0.3 mm. The weldable stainless steel thickness range mainly depends on equipment power and welding parameters.
Equipment power
1000W handheld laser welding machine: can weld stainless steel within 3 mm. In specific cases, such as when the weld joint tensile requirement is not high and double-sided welding is used, it can also handle slightly thicker stainless steel plate, such as 10 mm plate with about 3 mm penetration.
1500W handheld laser welding machine: can weld stainless steel within 5 mm.
2000W handheld laser welding machine: can weld stainless steel within 8 mm.
Welding parameters
Weld size: when the weld is larger than 0.3 mm, a laser welding machine with wire feed is recommended. When material thickness is less than 1 mm, laser welding without wire feed is more suitable, because wire feed welding is relatively slower and may cause material deformation.
Welding material: thickness is also affected by material type. Different materials have different melting points, thermal properties, and laser absorption rates, so welding results differ.
Welding results and selection advice
Welding results: some handheld laser welding machines can weld 0.3 to 0.5 mm stainless steel plate, but machines that give good results are relatively few. Cold-cathode handheld laser welders perform notably better in this thin plate range.
Selection advice: choose equipment based on actual welding needs and budget. Do not use a machine mainly designed for thick plate to weld thin plate, and pay attention to laser power attenuation.
We can machine custom nozzles, fixtures, protective lens holders, and other precision parts for handheld laser welding machines from customer drawings, for single-piece or low-volume production.
Our custom precision component machining capability is not limited to handheld laser welding equipment. Beyond welding nozzles, fixtures, and protective lens holders, we also machine yacht precision components, RC car structural parts, medical device parts, and non-standard parts for food machinery and printing machinery. Hansheng Automation works from customer drawings and production quantities to deliver single-piece or low-volume precision machining.
