A high-speed coating machine controls three main stages: substrate transport, coating liquid supply, and coating curing. This applies a functional coating evenly to the substrate surface.
Substrate transport system
It moves the substrate to be coated, such as film, paper, or metal foil, in a stable way. The line usually runs a closed loop of unwinding, edge correction, pulling, and rewinding.
The unwinding unit uses a magnetic powder brake or servo motor to control unwind tension, which prevents the substrate from going slack or breaking.
A photoelectric edge correction device checks the substrate edge position in real time and corrects transport offset. Substrate travel accuracy can reach within ±0.1 mm.
The pull roller group is driven by a servo motor. It provides a stable line speed that matches the coating process.
Coating liquid supply and coating unit
This is the core of uniform coating. Main coating methods work differently:
Doctor blade coating: applies excess coating liquid to the substrate, then a doctor blade with adjustable gap removes the extra slurry. This controls coating thickness precisely. It is common for surface coating on paper and film.
Roll coating: controls the amount of coating liquid transferred by the gap between a metering roller and an application roller, then transfers the coating to the substrate. It suits high-gloss coating production.
Slot die coating: a precision slot nozzle extrudes coating liquid directly onto the substrate. Coating thickness uniformity can reach ±1%. It is often used in high-end lithium battery and display panel production.
Comma roller coating: a grooved comma-shaped metering roller controls coating weight. It suits coating work with various high-viscosity slurries.
When coating heads, rollers, or doctor blades need replacement, Hansheng Automation can machine these precision parts from customer drawings in single pieces or small batches.
Coating curing unit
The curing method depends on the coating liquid type:
Hot air drying: for water-based and solvent-based coating liquids. A hot air circulation system evaporates solvent or water. Temperature and air speed are controlled precisely.
UV curing: for UV-curable coatings. UV lamps emit a specific wavelength to trigger crosslinking and curing. Curing speed can reach over 100 m/min.
Infrared curing: infrared radiation heats the coating to speed up the curing reaction. It suits substrates with lower heat sensitivity.
Closed-loop control system
A PLC and servo system collect parameters such as tension, speed, coating thickness, and temperature in real time. It automatically adjusts each unit to keep the whole coating process stable and consistent.
Our precision parts custom machining is not limited to high-speed coating equipment. We also produce non-standard components for yacht hardware, RC car parts, filling machinery, tobacco packaging machinery, printing equipment, food machinery, and medical devices. Hansheng Automation supports single-piece and small-batch production from customer drawings. We focus on precision parts machining and delivery, which helps maintenance and replacement across different industries.
