Our sprocket wheel production process
Every manufacturing step at Hansheng Automation is precisely controlled, and as the source factory, you can always stay informed of your project's production progress.
We will conduct in-depth discussions with you to understand your application requirements and provide professional drawing design.
We rigorously select standard steel or specified materials.
We utilize our lost wax, sand casting, and lost foam casting processes to produce dense blanks.
Our precision machining centers perform finishing on the inner and outer diameters, end faces, and hub bores, achieving an accuracy of ±0.005mm.
This is a core step. We utilize high-precision equipment such as Kashifuji rack shapers for gear hobbing or gear shaping, ensuring the tooth profile meets standards.
High-frequency quenching of the teeth enhances surface hardness and wear resistance while maintaining core toughness.
Blackening, galvanizing, and other treatments are available upon request to enhance corrosion resistance.
We use our gear testers and coordinate measuring machines to conduct final inspections of key parameters such as tooth profile, pitch, and tolerance to ensure a high pass rate.
Application Areas
Currently, the majority of Hansheng Automation's sprockets are delivered to packaging machinery customers, such as sealers, labelers, and canning lines. However, sprocket applications extend beyond packaging machinery and include the following:
Agricultural machinery: Harvesters, seeders, and feed processing equipment
Food processing: Washing lines, baking equipment, and conveyor systems (stainless steel sprockets are often used)
Engineering and construction machinery: Hoists, mixers, and small excavators
Logistics and warehousing equipment: Sorting systems and racking drives
Textile and printing machinery

Preventive Maintenance - How to Identify and Prevent Industrial Sprocket Wear
Sprocket wear directly impacts the lifespan of the entire roller chain system. To prevent unexpected production line downtime, it is crucial to recognize the three primary wear patterns on sprocket wheels and address them proactively:
Tooth Profile Wear (Hooking Effect)
Normal long-term friction or excessive chain elongation. As the chain stretches, it rides higher on the teeth, wearing out the active tooth faces and creating a "hooked" profile.
Prevention: We recommend choosing induction-hardened teeth (HRC 45-55) for high-load or high-speed operations. Ensure regular lubrication and monitor chain tension.
Misalignment Wear (Side Wear on Teeth)
Parallelism error between the drive shaft and driven shaft, or axial misalignment of the sprockets. This forces the chain link plates to rub heavily against one side of the sprocket teeth.
Prevention: Align shafts and sprockets using laser alignment tools during installation. Periodically check for axial movement.
Abrasive or Corrosive Wear
Operation in harsh environments containing dust, grit, humidity, or corrosive chemicals (such as in food processing washdown areas).
Prevention: Opt for Stainless Steel (SUS304/SUS316) sprockets or specialized surface coatings like nickel plating or black oxide to resist chemical attack and surface abrasion.
What happens if a sprocket breaks?
Before discussing sprocket damage, we need to understand what causes sprocket damage. Hansheng Automation has summarized the following points based on its own practical experience. The most common cause is insufficient lubrication, which causes the sprocket and chain to wear and tear over time, leading to damage. Overtightening the chain can also damage the sprocket. Prolonged overload can also cause the sprocket to break.
These are the common causes of sprocket damage. Now let's discuss the consequences of sprocket damage. It can cause your equipment to lose power and become inoperable. If the equipment is operating at high speeds, a broken chain can even damage the equipment, and in more serious cases, cause casualties.

FAQ
Q: How do I choose the right sprocket for my equipment?
A: You need to determine three key parameters:
1) The type of chain you will use (which determines the pitch and roller size);
2) The required number of teeth;
3) The shaft diameter and keyway size to which you will be installing. If you are unsure, please feel free to contact our technical team for expert guidance.
Q: Can you produce custom sprockets for non-standard applications?
A: Of course. Customization is one of our core strengths. Simply provide a drawing, sample, or detailed technical requirements. Whether it's a special material, number of teeth, hub bore configuration, or a complex overall design, our robust CNC machining and casting capabilities can meet your needs.
Q: What information do I need for a quote?
A: For an accurate quote, please provide the following: sprocket type, material, number of teeth, pitch, shaft bore diameter, keyway size, whether heat treatment is required, and the purchase quantity. The more detailed information you provide, the faster and more accurate your quote will be.
Q: What is your production lead time?
A: Typically, standard sprockets have a lead time of less than one week. The production lead time for custom products depends on the complexity and quantity, but is generally 15-20 business days. We will provide an exact delivery time when quoting.
Q: How do you guarantee product quality?
A: 1) Strict raw material inspection;
2) Use of high-precision processing equipment such as Kashifuji;
3) Precise heat treatment process control;
4) Complete inspection of finished products using equipment such as gear testers before shipment. We stand behind every product that leaves our factory.
