Process
Raw material preparation
The primary task of manufacturing ductile iron castings is preparing the raw material, such as pig iron, scrap steel, carbon additives, as well as key spheroidizing agents and inoculants, etc. The quality ratio of these materials determine the performance of final products directly.
Smelting
Pig iron, scrap steel and recycled materials etc. are put into cupola furnaces or electric furnaces in a certain proportion. According to heating, melting and adjusting the chemical composition, the molten iron will reach specified temperature and meet requirements of composition It is crucial to control the furnace temperature, because it must ensure molten iron can reach the specified temperature.
spheroidization treatment
Spheroidization treatment is carried out after the molten iron meets requirements of temperature. The process is that making the graphite precipitates in spherical form according to specific spheroidizing agent is added to molten iron. The selection and dosage of spheroidizing agent play a crucial role in the structure and performance of the final product.
Inoculation treatment
Inoculation treatment is carried out immediately after spheroidization treatment. Inoculant is added to the molten iron to improve the roundness, distribution uniformity, and quantity of graphite spheres. This step can increase the number of graphite spheres in cast iron and refine the metal matrix. Then the overall mechanical properties will be improved.
Casting and Molding
The treated molten iron needs to be poured promptly to avoid adverse factors, such as generation of oxidation and inclusion. Controlling temperature and flow rate strictly is crucial to ensure the quality of castings during pouring.
Follow-up processing
After pouring, castings will be cooled to room temperature in a natural environment. Then cleaning work is necessary to carry out, such as removing the redundant gate and riser parts. Finally, internal stress is eliminated through heat treatment to further enhance its mechanical properties.
