Application in a spindle drive system

 

Control of speed and torque: basic principle The planetary gear head in the spindle drive system of the machine tool can efficiently change the spindle's torque and speed. The planetary gearbox uses internal gear's changing transmission ratio to accomplish this. For a planetary gearbox with various sun gear teeth, planetary gear and ring gear, for instance, a range of transmission ratios can be obtained depending on different connection and fixing techniques when the motor is connected to the sun gear as input. A lower speed and a higher torque are needed for rough machining-that is, milling the blank of a big workpiece. The planetary gearbox can now set a bigger reduction ratio to transform the high-speed and low-torque output of the motor into a low-speed and high-torque output fit for rough machining.


Application case: Larger cutting force is needed in CNC milling machines when machining harder materials, such cast iron. To suit rough machining, the planetary gearbox can slow down the motor from 3000r/min to roughly 300r/min and simultaneously raise the torque from 10N・m to about 100N・m. In the last stage, such fine milling of the mold surface, a faster speed and rather low torque are needed. For example, raise the speed to 10000r/min and lower the torque to roughly 2N・m to guarantee the processing accuracy and surface quality at this moment by adjusting the transmission ratio of the planetary reducer.
 

Improve transmission accuracy

Precisely control the moving speed of the worktable or tool holder

 

The feed transmission system of the machine tool is intended to exactly control the linear moving speed of the worktable or tool holder. By converting the rotational motion of the motor into linear motion, one can exactly vary the speed depending on processing demand. For example, the feed system of the lathe drives the screw to rotate through the gearbox, so generating the linear movement of the tool holder. The transmission ratio defines the tool holder's moving speed; hence, varying the transmission ratio will produce different feed speeds.

Application case: On a CNC lathing, machining threads with different pitches requires precisely regulated feed speed for the tool holder. One can precisely vary the moving speed of the tool holder in line with the pitch requirements of thread. Machining a thread with a pitch of 0.5mm changes the transmission ratio of the planetary gearbox so that the tool holder moves with 0.5mm per minute, so guaranteeing the accuracy of thread machining; machining a thread with a pitch of 1mm converts the motor speed into a linear moving speed of 1mm per minute for the tool holder across it.
