On October 29, the world's first specialized transoral surgery robotic surgery for early laryngeal cancer was completed in the Eye and Otolaryngology Hospital of Fudan University.

The Paper reporter learned from the hospital on October 30 that Mr. Shao, a 53-year-old patient with early laryngeal cancer, is from Anhui. The procedure is extremely minimally invasive, with less than 1 ml of intraoperative blood loss. On the first day after surgery, Mr. Shao recovered well, and he and his family expressed their gratitude to the treatment team.

According to the Eye and Otolaryngology Hospital of Fudan University, Mr. Shao was found to have a lesion in the glottis area two weeks ago and came to the Eye and Otolaryngology Hospital of Fudan University for treatment. Professor Tao Lei's team from the hospital performed surgical treatment for the patient. After rigorous discussion and careful preparation, Mr. Shao successfully underwent surgery on October 29, and became the first patient in the world to undergo a domestic "transoral surgical robot" glottal tumor resection.

According to the hospital, the first domestic transoral surgical robot system TransoralRoboticSurgery System (TORSS Topography) is jointly developed by Tao Lei's® team and well-known domestic medical robot companies based on clinical problems.

Tao Lei said that the traditional minimally invasive surgery for throat tumors uses microscopic CO2 laser or endoscopic plasma technology, which has application advantages, but also has limitations such as limited exposure of lesions, difficulty in hemostasis, unclear surgical margins, difficult to control one-handed operation, and long learning curve. The above-mentioned surgical robot system is different from other surgical robot systems at home and abroad, designed for the unique anatomical structure of the throat stenosis and curve, which enhances the visualization, high precision and flexibility, and has significant advantages in the operation of the throat region, covering the oropharynx, larynx and hypopharynx, and is suitable for the treatment of benign and malignant lesions of the throat.

Tao Lei said that at present, there is no similar oral robot platform in the world, and this technology has received extensive attention from domestic and foreign counterparts, and it also marks the realization of specialization, refinement and intelligence of domestic robotic surgery. The team will carry out international clinical research, skills training, health economics and other fields in countries and regions including Germany, the United States and India around the above-mentioned surgical robot system, and promote the standardized application of head and neck surgery around the world.
