On June 24th, according to media reports, China has made significant achievements in talent cultivation and infrastructure construction in the field of artificial intelligence (AI).
According to the latest data from the Paulson Institute of the University of Chicago, 47% of the top 20% of AI researchers globally in 2022 are from China, while South Korea's proportion in the same ranking is only 2%.
Since 2018, China has added over 2000 AI related courses to its undergraduate curriculum. This educational expansion is part of the national strategy aimed at cultivating a large number of AI talents and strengthening the country's competitiveness in the global AI field.
According to data from the Paulson Institute, China has almost surpassed the United States in the number of top talents in AI research, with the latter accounting for 28% of the top 2% of AI researchers, while China accounts for 26%, a significant increase from 10% in 2019.
China's success in the fields of AI and semiconductors is attributed to its continuous investment in talent cultivation and infrastructure expansion, while other countries are also actively expanding into the AI field.
For example, the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) plans to invest $40 billion in the field of AI, the UAE has established the AI and Advanced Technology Committee (AIATC), Japan has invested 118 billion yen in developing AI models, France plans to provide 400 million euros in funding to AI clusters, and Canada has announced an investment of 2.4 billion Canadian dollars to cultivate the AI industry.
