Korea's Technology Leads The World! LTPO OLED Panel Has Been The No. 1 Patent Application in The Last 10 Years!

On August 26th, the latest data shows that in the past 10 years, South Korea has ranked first in the world in the number of patent applications for low-temperature polycrystalline silicon oxide (LTPO) light-emitting diode (OLED) panel technology.


According to the analysis of the Korea Patent Office, the number of patent applications for LTPO OLED panel technology in Korea has surged from 65 since 2013 to 440 in 2022, an increase of 6.8 times.

In the statistics of patent applications by nationality, South Korea leads with 1052 applications (40.4%), followed by China (728, 27.9%) and Japan (568, 21.8%). The United States has 156 applications (6.0%), while the European Union has 16 applications.


In the applicant ranking, South Korean LG Display ranked first with 649 applications (24.9%), followed closely by Samsung Display (376 applications, 14.4%) and China's BOE (373 applications, 14.3%).


Apple in the United States ranks fifth with 116 applications (4.5%), and it is particularly noteworthy that LG Display and Samsung Display combined account for 40% of the total applications.


In terms of technological influence, LG Display ranks first with an average of 6.1 citations per patent, surpassing Apple Inc. in the United States (4.4 citations) and the Semiconductor Energy Research Institute in Japan (2.7 citations).
