According to foreign media reports, Japanese automaker Isuzu Motors will begin selling compact electric trucks in North America in August this year and plans to launch mid size electric trucks in 2026. This strategic initiative aims to seize the opportunity as the US government will implement stricter regulations on vehicle emissions starting from 2027.
In order to facilitate local assembly in North America, Isuzu Motors will export components from Japan to its North American partners. This compact electric truck has a range of 68 to 130 miles and will primarily be leased to logistics companies to simplify its launch process. In addition, the specifications of medium-sized electric trucks are yet to be determined.
Isuzu Commercial Truck of America, Inc. is the best-selling distributor of low cab forward extension trucks in the United States. The company's Isuzu NRR-EV model has obtained zero emission certification from the California Air Resources Board (CARB) and the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

The California Air Resources Board is a department of the California Environmental Protection Agency. The mission of the California Air Resources Board is to protect and promote public health, welfare, and the healthy development of ecological resources by effectively reducing air pollutants, while considering the impact on the state and even the US economy.
The California Air Resources Board and the US Environmental Protection Agency have been advocating for accelerating the adoption of zero emission vehicles across the United States to address climate change, reduce air pollution, and promote sustainable transportation solutions nationwide. They demand that the company shift towards cleaner, zero emission technologies. The new Isuzu NRR-EV model has now obtained sales licenses in all 50 states of the United States and will begin assembly in Charlotte, Michigan in August this year.
The zero emission certification proves Isuzu's compliance with strict emission standards and regulatory requirements, indicating its compliance with federal and state environmental regulations. The new Isuzu NRR-EV mid size truck has reduced its carbon footprint and complied with increasingly stringent emission regulations.
Shaun Skinner, President of Isuzu Commercial Truck Co., Ltd., said, "For Isuzu Motors, the NRR-EV mid size truck fulfills our promise by providing innovative solutions for sustainable transportation. The certification of Isuzu NRR-EV models is an important step in providing customers with mid size vehicles that reduce carbon footprint and comply with new fleet regulations
The cost of electric trucks is usually about twice that of gasoline powered trucks. However, according to P&S Intelligence, the size of the US electric truck market is expected to grow significantly, from approximately $700 million last year to $15.1 billion by 2030.
Isuzu Motors entered the electric truck market at a time when European manufacturers and American manufacturers, including Tesla, are launching electric trucks. According to data from S&P Global Mobility, the current market share of electric vehicles in the mid to large truck segment is less than 0.5%, and their market share in the small truck market was only 6.6% last year. Isuzu Motors' goal is to establish a strong influence and achieve long-term growth in this emerging market.
