The highly anticipated foreign-funded manufacturing project - ABB Robot Super Factory - was officially completed and put into operation in Shanghai on December 2nd. The newly launched robot super factory has invested $150 million and covers an area of 67000 square meters. It is ABB's largest robot research and development, production, and application base in the world. Here, the cutting-edge concept of 'robots making robots' will become a reality.

The new R&D center of Super Factory covers an area of 8000 square meters and will accelerate innovation in artificial intelligence, digitization, and software, focusing on areas such as autonomous mobility, digital twins, machine vision, and low code programming software, making robots smarter, more flexible, safer, and easier to use. ABB will collaborate with partners and customers to develop innovative solutions in the new open innovation center, unlocking more possibilities for flexible automation in new fields such as logistics, healthcare, food and beverage.

The super factory connects the real world with the digital world, creating a digital manufacturing ecosystem that utilizes virtual planning and production management systems to improve performance and production efficiency by collecting and analyzing data. The new factory has abandoned traditional, fixed assembly lines and replaced them with flexible, modular production units that are digitally interconnected and serviced by intelligent autonomous mobile robots. Artificial intelligence robot systems can perform tasks such as screw tightening, assembly, and material handling, freeing people from these tasks and enabling them to engage in more valuable work. In the future, over 90% of our products sold in China will be produced here, supporting us in providing more locally manufactured products, solutions, and services to Chinese customers, "said An Shiming, Global President of ABB Robotics and Discrete Automation

China is one of ABB's most important research and production bases. As one of the three major global production bases for ABB robots, the super factory located in Shanghai will replace the original factory and provide support for Asian customers. The factories located in Westerros, Sweden and Auburn Hills, Michigan, USA will continue to serve customers in Europe and the Americas.
