Labeling machines are the most commonly used equipment in the field of automated production and packaging. They are classified in various ways. This article introduces the working principle and related technologies of the fully automatic horizontal rolling labeling machine.

Bottle Feeding and Sorting

Bottles enter the equipment's conveyor belt from the upstream production line. After passing through a buffer and sorting mechanism, the bottles proceed to the next stage in an orderly manner with a specific spacing.

Bottle Sorting and Positioning

High-speed rotating sorting wheels (star wheels) use precision-machined grooves to grip one bottle at a time and feed it into the labeling area at a constant speed and spacing. The groove size and curvature of the sorting wheels must perfectly match the bottle's diameter and height; this is a typical non-standard precision-machined component.

Conveying and Pressing

The separated bottles enter a horizontal conveyor track, driven forward by two drive rollers at the bottom. Simultaneously, the pressing conveyor belt at the top presses down, fixing the bottle to the rollers and preventing slippage or jumping during high-speed rolling.

Label Delivery and Peeling

When the bottle reaches the predetermined position, an optical sensor detects a signal, and a servo motor immediately drives the label roll. The label tape wraps around an extremely sharp-edged peeling plate, forcibly turning the label backing paper and retracting it. More flexible labels detach from the backing paper due to inertia and continue to be fed forward.

Labeling and Overlay

The tip of the label contacts the surface of the bottle, which is rotating at a constant speed, at the appropriate time. As the bottle continues to rotate, the label is smoothly and evenly applied to the bottle.

Finished Product Output

The labeled bottles continue forward, leaving the area covered by the pressing conveyor belt, and are smoothly transported to the next process (such as boxing, coding, etc.).

Technical details of key performance

High-speed stability (300 bottles/minute)

At high speeds, even slight vibrations can cause labeling failure. This means the entire machine frame must have extremely high rigidity, and all rotating parts must be dynamically balanced to eliminate eccentric torque.

01

High-precision labeling

This requires nanosecond-level synchronization between bottle rolling speed, label delivery speed, and sensor detection timing. The PLC processes signals from bottle and label detection sensors in real time and precisely controls the servo motor's speed and angle.

02

Flexibility for Rapid Product Changeover

The equipment possesses the ability to quickly switch products, with minimal downtime. Its modular design and non-standard customization allow for the rapid assembly and disassembly of many components. Operators simply need to replace the module with one that matches the dimensions of the new product to complete the changeover.

03

Durability and Materials Science

The long-term high-speed operation and environmental requirements of the equipment place demands on its durability and reliability. The main structure can be made of 304 or 316L stainless steel, while aluminum alloy components are typically anodized to form a hard protective film on their surface, enhancing wear resistance and corrosion resistance.

Functional Expansion and Customization

To integrate into more complex production lines, the fully automatic horizontal roller labeling machine offers a wide range of optional functions.

Thermal coding/inkjet coding: By adding a precision mounting bracket, a coding machine or inkjet printer can be integrated into the post-labeling station to achieve simultaneous printing of batch numbers, dates, and other information.

Automatic material collection: A rotary receiving tray can be added to the end of the machine to automatically collect finished products, reducing manual labor.

Additional labeling head: For products requiring two labels (e.g., front and back labels) at different locations on the bottle, this can be achieved by adding a labeling head and a corresponding control module.

Circumferential positioning labeling: By adding a vision sensor or utilizing a feature of the bottle (e.g., mold lines) as a positioning reference, labels can be applied to specific positions on the circumference of the bottle, meeting higher-level packaging requirements.
