What Are the Wear Parts of Side Sealing Packaging Machines?

On a side sealing packaging machine, a few parts wear out first: the cutter, the cutter holder tension spring, and the conveyor belt. These three contact the packaging material or handle the conveying motion, so they wear fastest.

Cutter

The cutter cuts the packaging material to complete the seal. It stays in contact with the material and cuts repeatedly, so the edge gradually dulls. A dull cutter cuts poorly: the material does not separate cleanly and the cut edge is uneven, affecting packaging quality and efficiency. Replace the cutter when cuts become incomplete or the edge turns rough. We can machine cutters, cutter holders, and related parts for side sealing packaging machines to customer drawings, for single pieces or small batches.

Cutter holder tension spring

The tension spring helps the cutter swing back and forth to make the cut. Each cut stretches and releases the spring once. After many cycles, the spring fatigues, its elasticity drops, and it no longer provides enough swing force for the cutter, so cut quality falls off. The spring is also a wear part and needs replacement at the right time.

Conveyor belt

The conveyor belt feeds and clamps cartons and other packages forward, holding them in the correct position for sealing. The belt surface usually has a pattern to increase friction with the package and prevent sliding during transport. Over time the pattern wears flat and the surface becomes smooth. Friction drops, slipping becomes common, and both conveying accuracy and seal quality suffer. Replace the belt when slipping appears.

Maintenance notes

Follow the operating procedure and keep up daily maintenance. This reduces how often wear parts fail and extends machine life.

Beyond the wear parts above, our precision component machining capability also covers non-standard parts for food packaging machinery, pharmaceutical packaging machinery, and logistics conveying equipment, as well as precision structural parts for yachts and RC race cars. Hansheng Automation machines single pieces or small batches to customer drawings, with material, tolerance, and surface finish specified by the drawing.
