To correct longitudinal tape deviation on a carton sealing machine, first identify the direction of deviation, then adjust the parallelism of the driven roller and drive roller in sequence, followed by tape tension and guide blocks. The core principle is to correct the deviation by eliminating roller installation errors and limiting lateral movement.

Before making any adjustment, be sure to disconnect the main power supply and lock the mechanical locking structure of the conveyor rollers to prevent accidental rotation and personal injury.

1. Identifying the Direction of Deviation

Manually rotate the tape conveying roller and observe the relative position between the tape edge, the worktable, and the roller. Confirm the deviation direction: if the tape shifts to the left, adjust the left-side mechanism; if it shifts to the right, adjust the right-side mechanism.

Cut a section of incoming tape and lay it flat for inspection. This helps rule out raw material defects such as uneven winding or inconsistent tape thickness.

2. Driven Roller Adjustment

Loosen the locking bolts at both ends of the driven roller to expose the height adjustment screws.

If the tape deviates to the right: turn the left height adjustment bolt clockwise to raise the left side of the roller, or turn the right adjustment bolt counterclockwise to lower the right side. The goal is to keep both ends of the roller level and parallel.

After adjustment, retighten all locking bolts and run the tape without load to verify whether the deviation has been corrected.

3. Drive Roller Adjustment

Open the side cover of the drive roller to access the parallelism adjustment screws or roller seat shims at both ends.

The deviation direction is consistent with the tilt direction of the drive roller. For example, if the tape deviates to the left, it indicates that the left side of the drive roller is too high. In this case, insert a thin copper shim of 0.1–0.5 mm under the left roller seat, or adjust the left screw to raise the left side, ensuring the drive roller and driven roller are fully parallel.

Keep each adjustment within 0.5 mm to avoid overcorrection and reverse deviation.

4. Tension and Guide Mechanism Adjustment

Check tape tension. Insufficient tension can cause the tape to wander. Turn the tension screw clockwise to increase tension, but avoid over-tightening, which may stretch or break the tape.

Adjust the guide blocks on both sides so that a clearance of 0.5–1 mm remains between the block and the tape edge. This limits lateral movement without causing friction, wrinkling, or damage.

If periodic deviation occurs, use a dial indicator to check the radial runout of the roller. If runout exceeds 0.2 mm, the roller should be replaced. If replacement rollers are needed, Hansheng Automation can provide custom-machined rollers according to customer drawings or samples.

5. Effect Verification

Continuously feed 5–10 cartons to be sealed and observe whether the tape position aligns with the carton edge. A deviation within ±1 mm is considered acceptable.

If slight deviation remains, repeat the above adjustment steps until the deviation is fully corrected.
