An aluminum can production line is highly automated complete equipment. Its core capability is continuous, efficient production from empty cans to finished packaging. Filling and seaming speeds can reach up to 1,200 cans per minute.
1. Core Process Flow
The line starts with empty can handling and ends with finished product packaging. It mainly includes the following steps:
Depalletizing and cleaning: The empty can depalletizer separates stacked empty cans and sends them to a sterilizing washer for cleaning and disinfection.
Filling and seaming: This is the core process. The filler accurately injects liquid material into the cans, and the seamer immediately seals them to ensure the contents remain sterile and shelf-stable. High-speed lines often use a two-in-one design that integrates filling and seaming to ensure synchronization and coordination.
Sterilization and treatment: Depending on product characteristics, subsequent steps may include pasteurization (e.g., beer) or can warming (e.g., some beverages).
Inspection and marking: A can inspection machine checks can sealing and defects, while an inkjet coder prints production dates and other information.
Packaging and palletizing: Finally, a shrink film wrapper, carton packer, and palletizer complete cartoning and stacking.
2. Main Equipment Composition
A complete production line is formed by connecting various specialized machines:
Empty can depalletizer: Automatically unloads stacked empty cans.
Filling and seaming unit: Core equipment. The more filling valves, the higher the speed (e.g., 72 valves). Seamer heads are matched accordingly.
Sterilization / can warming machine: Tunnel spray equipment for pasteurization or warming of products.
Can inspection machine: Uses optical or pressure sensing inspection to reject defective cans.
Inkjet coder: Performs non-contact printing on the can bottom or body.
Conveying system: Conveyors, star wheels, feed screws, and other components that run through the entire line and connect all equipment.
Packaging and palletizing system: Includes shrink film wrappers, carton packers, and robotic palletizers.
For can line builders and maintenance teams, Hansheng Automation can machine custom non-standard components from customer drawings-such as filling valves, seaming rollers, star wheels, feed screws, and guide rails-in single pieces or small batches, with materials and surface treatment selected for wear resistance, hygiene, and high-speed operation.
3. Production Capacity and Selection
The choice of production line directly depends on target output and product type.
Capacity range: Speeds vary from 200 to 1,200 cans per minute (12,000 to 72,000 cans per hour). Common specifications include 2,000 cans/hour, 6,000 cans/hour, 36,000 cans/hour, etc.
Line types:
By function: two-in-one machine (combined filling and seaming) or separate units.
By product: dedicated lines for carbonated beverages (e.g., cola), non-carbonated beverages (e.g., juice), hot filling (e.g., tea drinks), beer (requires pasteurization), etc.
4. Technical Features
Modern aluminum can production lines generally have the following features:
High automation and intelligence: The entire process is controlled by a PLC programming control system and HMI touch screen, with stepless speed regulation via frequency converters, automatic cap feeding, and reduced manual intervention.
High hygiene standards: Product-contact parts are mostly stainless steel, meeting GMP standards. The cleaning system (CIP) enables clean-in-place.
Flexible and customizable: Auxiliary equipment such as steam injection devices (to increase vacuum), cooling tunnels, and various specifications of depalletizers and palletizers can be added according to customer requirements.
