Circular guide rails run in two modes: continuous and intermittent. They differ in motion characteristics, applications, and system requirements.
1. Motion characteristics
Continuous operation: under motor drive, the slider or roller moves along the circular track without stopping. In an automated assembly line, the slider keeps transporting materials, so the production flow stays continuous.
Intermittent operation: the slider or roller moves in intervals. It can be preprogrammed to stop at any or multiple positions for a set time. In multi-station machining, the slider stops at each station, completes the operation, then moves to the next station.
2. Applications
Continuous operation: suits processes that need efficient, stable production, such as:
Automated assembly lines: the slider continuously transports parts, reducing downtime and improving assembly efficiency.
Material handling systems: continuous transport of goods in warehouses or production workshops for fast flow.
Intermittent operation: suits processes that need accurate positioning and repeat positioning, such as:
Multi-station machining: the slider stops at each station, completes drilling, grinding, or other operations, then moves on.
Automatic inspection lines: the slider stops at the inspection station, giving sensors enough time to complete product inspection.
If a slider, roller, mounting base, or tooling plate for a circular guide rail needs to be made to drawing, we can machine it in single pieces or small batches. Hansheng Automation works to drawing dimensions and assembly clearances.
3. System requirements
Continuous operation:
Rail wear resistance: must withstand long-term friction and reduce wear to maintain accuracy.
Stability: the rail and motor must keep low vibration to avoid affecting the stability of transported items.
Continuous motor drive force: the motor must provide stable power to prevent speed fluctuation from load changes.
Intermittent operation:
Rail wear resistance and stability: similar to continuous operation, but frequent start-stop impact on the rail must also be considered.
Precise control system:
Servo motor: achieves accurate start-stop and speed control of the slider.
Sensors: detect slider position to ensure it reaches the specified station accurately.
PLC: coordinates components and executes preprogrammed stop and move commands.
4. Selection basis
Continuous operation focuses on efficiency and stability. Intermittent operation focuses on positioning accuracy and operating flexibility. The choice depends on the specific requirement.
Our precision parts machining service is not limited to circular guide rails. Hansheng Automation can machine custom parts from drawings for automated assembly equipment parts, inspection equipment parts, 3C electronic tooling, and medical device parts. We also cover yacht precision fittings, RC car structural parts, filling machinery parts, and tobacco packaging machinery parts. Single pieces and small batches are both available, with attention to material, tolerance, surface finish, and assembly fit.
