Five commonly used machines for aluminum sheet and plate processing are CNC shearing machines, CNC press brakes, CNC punching machines, CNC milling machines, and machining centers. Each machine performs a different function, from cutting and forming to hole machining and precision milling.

CNC Shearing Machine

Main function: A CNC shearing machine separates aluminum sheet by moving the upper blade against the fixed lower blade, cutting the material to the required dimensions.

Advantages: Fast straight-line cutting and consistent dimensional accuracy make this machine suitable for efficient blank preparation. It is commonly used when aluminum sheets need to be cut into specified lengths and widths before further processing.

CNC Press Brake

Main function: A CNC press brake uses a punch and die to bend aluminum sheet at room temperature, forming workpieces into the required angles and profiles.

Advantages: Programmable ram movement and backgauge positioning help maintain bend angle consistency and dimensional accuracy. The machine is suitable for batch production of brackets, enclosures, panels, and other formed aluminum components.

CNC Punching Machine

Main function: A CNC punching machine uses programmed punch movements to produce holes, slots, cutouts, and patterns in aluminum sheet.

Advantages: Programmable positioning and interchangeable tooling provide flexibility when processing different part designs. CNC punching is useful for producing multiple hole patterns and repeated features, particularly in sheet metal components that require consistent positioning.

CNC Milling Machine

Main function: A CNC milling machine removes material using rotating cutting tools. It can machine flat surfaces, grooves, pockets, gear features, and complex contours, depending on the machine configuration and tooling.

Advantages: CNC milling supports accurate profile machining and controlled surface finishing. It is suitable for aluminum components that require specific dimensions, machined features, or geometries that cannot be produced by shearing, bending, or punching alone.

Machining Center

Main function: A machining center is equipped with a tool magazine and an automatic tool changer. Depending on its configuration, it can perform milling, drilling, boring, tapping, and other operations in a single workholding setup.

Advantages: Automatic tool changes and integrated machining operations reduce repeated manual tool changes and workpiece repositioning. This makes machining centers suitable for complex aluminum components that require several machining operations while maintaining dimensional relationships between features.

Choosing the Right Machine for Aluminum Processing

Machine selection depends on the part geometry, material thickness, required tolerances, surface finish, and production volume.

CNC shearing machines are suitable for straight cutting, while CNC press brakes form the sheet into the required shape. CNC punching machines produce holes and repeated patterns. CNC milling machines and machining centers are used when the component requires more detailed material removal or precision features.

Some parts require several of these processes. Selecting the appropriate combination helps reduce unnecessary operations and maintain consistent product quality.

Custom Precision Machining for Industrial Applications

Hansheng Automation provides custom precision machining based on customer drawings for a range of industrial applications. Our work includes precision components for yacht equipment and RC racing cars, as well as nonstandard parts for tobacco packaging machinery and filling machinery. Each component is manufactured according to the supplied drawings and the specific dimensional and structural requirements.
