Wire EDM for Complex Profiles
Profiles that cannot be achieved by rotary machining - including notch geometries, keyways, and tight-radius internal features - are processed on our Seibu Wire Electric Discharge Machine (WEDM) M50B, which delivers sub-micron positioning accuracy without introducing mechanical stress to the workpiece.
Heat Treatment
All HSS knives undergo vacuum quenching followed by triple tempering. Vacuum atmosphere eliminates decarburization and surface oxidation, ensuring a uniform hardness of 63–66 HRC through the full cross-section - not merely at the surface. Dimensional distortion during heat treatment is controlled within the final machining tolerance envelope.
Surface Coating (Optional)
PVD titanium nitride (TiN) or titanium aluminum nitride (TiAlN) coatings are available upon request. Both coatings increase surface hardness to above 2300 HV and reduce the coefficient of friction, measurably extending re-grinding intervals and resisting corrosion from tobacco processing chemicals.
