Bore wear
Measure bore diameter at multiple points. Wear often causes an oval cross‑section (not uniform growth), which makes the tobacco column track off‑centre and produces uneven weight distribution.
Inner bore surface
Run a clean cloth through the bore. Pitting or heavy scratches cause turbulent tobacco flow. Light polishing may help early wear, but replace if pitting cannot be polished out.
Mating face condition
Inspect seating faces for flatness, burrs, or deposits. Clean with a flat stone or solvent before installation.
Dimensional verification
