So, how was an SU7 born?
This cannot be separated from Xiaomi's automotive super factory in Yizhuang, Beijing.
Mr. Lei said in a recent live broadcast event, "Many people are urging us to deliver quickly, saying that Lei can't always go to the factory to tighten the screws. Our factory is a modern chemical factory, and the main process is fully automated production. Going to tighten the screws is purely adding to the chaos."
The Xiaomi Automobile Super Factory is a highly intelligent "black light factory" that was officially unveiled on March 19 this year. Famous CCTV host Sa Beining also went on a field trip.
According to Xiaomi's plan, its factory will be constructed in two phases: the first phase covers an area of nearly 720000 square meters, and will start construction in April 2022 and be completed in June 2023; The second phase is planned to start construction in 2024 and be completed by 2025.
Xiaomi Automobile Factory has specially created six workshops for its new energy vehicles, including stamping, die-casting, body painting, battery, and final assembly. It has introduced over 700 robots and achieved high-quality delivery through advanced automated production. It can achieve 100% automation of key processes such as large die-casting, stamping, body connection, body assembly, painting, and final assembly. Every 76 seconds, a brand new Xiaomi SU7 can be produced.
At Xiaomi's first technology press conference, Mr. Lei's proudest technology was die-casting, which is considered one of Xiaomi's five core self-developed technologies.
In the large die-casting workshop, each "steel giant" is constantly in operation. A single die-casting machine has a locking force of 9100 tons and occupies an area as large as two basketball courts. It can cast the car's rear bumper bottom plate, which originally required 72 parts to be stamped and welded, in one go. The entire process only takes about 100 seconds.
The painting workshop is equipped with 75 spray painting robots, which are fully automatic and achieve a 100% automation rate; Customized development of a 100% automatic assembly system for exterior covering parts in the car body workshop, with an assembly accuracy of up to ± 0.5mm with the car body frame. Combined with AMR logistics robots, visual loading robots, etc., it achieves complete automation of automatic loading, connection, and assembly of medium and large items.
In the material transportation process, Xiaomi did not use traditional AGV cars, but instead adopted more advanced AMR visual robots that perceive through AI and LiDAR, without the need to lay electromagnetic guidance lines on the ground like previous AGVs.
In the car body workshop, there are a total of 94 such AMRs from domestic robots, which achieve mixed scheduling of multiple vehicle types and sizes, meet the 7mm process accuracy requirements, provide logistics support for intelligent manufacturing of automobiles, and can achieve 100% automated transportation of major items.
In the final assembly workshop, the front and rear windshields as well as the glass canopy of SU7 are automatically assembled by mechanical arms, with installation accuracy controlled within 0.5mm. When assembling the battery with the vehicle body, high-precision automation equipment is also relied upon, and the entire process takes less than 30 seconds.
The detection process is also machine output. The X-Eye intelligent quality inspection system can replace human eyes in identifying and pointing out defects, with an accuracy rate of over 99.9%. The appearance of the entire vehicle also adopts 100% fully automated ultraviolet light detection, with a measurement accuracy of ± 0.05m.
In addition, we also discovered an old friend - Luoshi Robot - who was deeply involved in the research and development and manufacturing of SU7's intelligent automotive air conditioning production line.
Luoshi Robotics stated that they have maintained close cooperation with Xiaomi's product, quality, and manufacturing expert teams from the initial design of the product to small-scale production, and finally to the final mass production stage. The production line plan also adheres to the principles of advanced manufacturing, intensive land use, and high integration, while ensuring the consistency and quality stability of customer product assembly, it realizes the storability of process parameters and the traceability of information.
The automotive air conditioning electrical inspection system, production line manufacturing execution system (MES), customer warehouse management system (WMS), logistics stacking and scheduling system provided by Luoshi have achieved comprehensive interaction, promoting the automation and informatization of production processes, greatly improving production efficiency, and providing comprehensive guarantee for product quality.
