On January 3, the 73rd Group Army Hospital of the Army successfully implemented the first robot-assisted artificial joint replacement in Xiamen, ushering in the era of intelligent orthopedic surgery in our city.

Artificial joint replacement is an important means for the treatment of middle and advanced joint diseases, and is suitable for joint injuries or degenerative diseases in multiple parts of the knee, hip, and shoulder joints. Traditional artificial joint replacement surgery faces challenges such as intraoperative operation accuracy depends on the doctor's experience, the accuracy of prosthesis alignment is limited, and the risk of tissue damage is high. The advent of robot-assisted joint replacement has greatly improved the accuracy and safety of surgery.
Huang Jianming, director of the Department of Orthopedics of the 73rd Group Army Hospital of the Army, said that robot-assisted joint replacement has many advantages. Before surgery, the robot combines CT image data and 3D modeling technology to accurately analyze the patient's skeletal anatomy and formulate a personalized surgical plan to ensure that the size, angle and position of the prosthesis are highly matched with the patient's physiological structure. During the operation, the robotic system provides sub-millimeter accuracy, reduces the doctor's operation error, ensures that the joint prosthesis is implanted in the most ideal position, and uses minimally invasive surgery to reduce soft tissue damage. In addition, the robot can also monitor and adjust in real time during the surgical process, avoiding important blood vessels, nerves and ligaments, and improving surgical safety. Postoperative recovery is faster, pain is lighter, and function is better. Huang Jianming said that in the future, he will continue to introduce cutting-edge intelligent orthopedic technology to provide better medical services for patients with joint diseases.
