Speaking of the involution pressure faced by China's manufacturing industry, Li Dongsheng, founder and chairman of TCL, said during the parallel forum of "2024 Yabuli Forum Innovation Annual Conference · The Road to Transformation and Upgrading of China's Science and Technology Manufacturing Industry" held on June 21: "The manufacturing industry cannot only rely on cost efficiency, it must go to technological innovation, be able to keep up with the global leading level, there are technical barriers, it is difficult for others to surpass you, in order to survive in the process of volume."

As a veteran who has been "guarding" in the manufacturing industry for more than 40 years, Li Dongsheng has a special feeling about the "involution", and TCL under his leadership has gone through several changes and transformations, and finally stubbornly came to this day.

In 2004, in the face of the transformation of the color TV industry from CRT to liquid crystal (LCD), Japan, Korea, and Taiwan have risen in the panel industry, and the color TV industry in Chinese mainland is facing the situation of "lack of cores and fewer screens", TCL is determined to extend to the upstream of the industrial chain, and in 2009, TCL Huaxing was founded to officially lay out the semiconductor display industry. Today's TCL Huaxing has become one of China's "panel duo", and has made breakthroughs in the field of panel technology such as Mini LED and printed OLED, leading the industry.

In the context of continuous progress in the layout of the semiconductor display field, TCL gradually began to transform from a traditional terminal product manufacturing enterprise to a high-tech manufacturing industry, and expected to copy the management logic of the pan-semiconductor field to other high-tech fields, so in 2020, TCL acquired the then Tianjin Zhonghuan Group and officially laid out the new energy photovoltaic industry track.

At present, TCL has developed from a traditional manufacturer focusing on consumer electronics products to an industrial group integrating intelligent terminals, semiconductor displays, and new energy photovoltaics, with business in more than 160 countries and regions around the world, with 46 R&D centers and 33 manufacturing bases.

"There are two points for the future development of the manufacturing industry, one is in technological innovation, we must make unremitting efforts; Second, in the process of globalization, we must dare to compete with the masters, and many skills can only be truly established in the competition", Li Dongsheng added, "I believe that Chinese enterprises can develop to this day, and they can cope with the transformation and upgrading of the manufacturing industry and the challenges of globalization."
