Optics Giant Zeiss Opens Innovation Center in Hsinchu, Taiwan, Buys Land For Plant in Suzhou

Recently, Zeiss, the global leader in optical and optoelectronic technology, announced the official opening of its new innovation center in Hsinchu Science Park, Taiwan, China, China.


The Zeiss Innovation Center provides a comprehensive product portfolio to meet the productivity needs of Taiwan's semiconductor research and development, production, and failure analysis (FA). After the opening, the innovation center will be equipped with optical microscopes, electron microscopes, 3D X-ray microscopes, artificial intelligence software solutions, and other technologies for the development and customization of advanced workflows from wafers to packaging.


Peng Tat Cheong, head of Zeiss in Taiwan, China, said, "Zeiss invests more than 15% of its revenue in research and development every year. In recent years, we have seen the huge potential of Taiwan's semiconductor industry and formulated a strategy from Taiwan to the world."

Peng Tat Cheong also said, "By establishing this new innovation center, we will initiate cooperation in the semiconductor and electronics industries in the Asia Pacific region, and collaborate with research institutions and academic departments to create talent, research and development, and application centers. We will promote Taiwan's semiconductor technology and talent to the Asia Pacific region, Germany, and international markets


In the past five years, the number of employees in Taiwan has almost tripled, from 121 to 406, and an average of one new direct business department is added each year. This makes Taiwan, China the fifth region in the world with five complete Zeiss business units.


In addition, Zeiss will establish an advanced photonics training laboratory where engineering students and interested individuals from technical schools, colleges, and the business community can master the latest photonics technologies. The building will also have a photonics' demonstration center 'showcasing the application of optical technology in various industries.


Finally, Zeiss has officially opened its new R&D and manufacturing base in Suzhou Industrial Park. This is the first time that Zeiss Group has purchased land and built a factory in China, with a total land area of over 13000 square meters. In the future, it will become an important research and manufacturing base for Zeiss industrial quality, research microscopes, surgical microscopes, and ophthalmic equipment in China. This marks the further deepening of Zeiss' localization strategy in China and the upgrading of its local R&D and manufacturing capabilities.
