Users can click on the newly added "AI Mode" tab in the sidebar of the search results page to experience this new way of searching.
Robby Stein, vice president of Google products, said in an official blog that Google received feedback from core users that senior users want AI-generated responses in a wider range of search scenarios, which prompted Google to develop this feature.
Google One AI Premium is a subscription service that costs $19.99 per month. In addition to providing more cloud storage space, it also includes priority access to multiple artificial intelligence features.
Currently, users in more than 100 countries can experience Google's "AI Overview" summary feature above traditional page links. Since May last year, Google has begun inserting advertising content in the "AI Overview".

After enabling "AI Mode", search results will present more comprehensive summary information, each conclusion will be accompanied by a link to the source web page, and the traditional 10 blue links will be replaced by a search box that supports continuous questioning. Google said that the "AI mode" is driven by a customized version of the Gemini 2.0 model, which has strong reasoning capabilities and can handle complex query requests more efficiently.
Google's parent company Alphabet's revenue in 2024 reached $350 billion, most of which came from search advertising business. However, this core business has been facing the impact from artificial intelligence companies such as OpenAI in recent years. OpenAI added a search function to ChatGPT in October 2024, which directly competes with Google's search business.
Google's investment director Ruth Porat said at a conference in December last year that Google has regarded the integration of artificial intelligence into search as the group's most important strategic direction. In February this year, education technology company Chegg sued Google, accusing its "AI Overview" feature of weakening the demand for original content and damaging the competitiveness of publishers.
Analysts believe that Google's move is not only a major change in the traditional form of search, but also an important step in its strategic adjustment in the field of artificial intelligence. Through the "AI mode", Google attempts to present search results in a way that is more in line with users' needs for AI, while improving user experience and search efficiency.
