In the field of embodied intelligence, commercial exploration is in full swing, and major enterprises have set foot in many industries from industrial production to guided reception, to power inspection and high-risk operations, and strive to explore new application scenarios of humanoid robots. Recently, an event focusing on embodied intelligence, the first Embodied Intelligence Ecological Summit, was successfully held in Shanghai by Fourier Company, a leader in the field of embodied intelligence.
At the summit, Fourier and Shanghai International Medical Center jointly announced that the two sides will carry out in-depth cooperation in the field of rehabilitation medicine, jointly formulate application standards for embodied intelligent robots, innovate rehabilitation programs, and overcome related scientific research problems, and work together to build the first embodied intelligent rehabilitation demonstration base in China. This cooperation undoubtedly opens a new chapter in the application of embodied intelligence in the field of medical rehabilitation.
Gu Jie, founder and CEO of Fourier, reviewed the ten-year entrepreneurial process with affection at the meeting, and shared the company's future strategy - "based on health care, focusing on interaction, and serving people". Gu Jie emphasized that medical rehabilitation is the foundation of Fourier, and the company is committed to introducing embodied intelligence technology into a wide range of scenarios such as hospitals, communities, and families, so as to truly realize "human-centered embodied intelligence".
Since its establishment in 2015, Fourier has been deeply involved in the field of medical rehabilitation robots for a long time. In 2023, the company made a strategic transformation, moving from a dedicated rehabilitation robot to a general robotics technology platform, and successfully launched the first general humanoid robot, the GR-1. Up to now, Fourier has released two self-developed GRx series general-purpose humanoid robots, with a cumulative shipment of hundreds of units, and the application scenarios cover AI research and development, factory manufacturing, reception, dangerous goods protection and other fields.

Regarding the applicability of embodied intelligence in the field of health care, Zhang Shaoting, CEO of SenseTime, said at the summit forum that the pure medical scenario is relatively limited, while the fields of health, rehabilitation, and elderly care are broader. Faced with the current shortage of professional nursing staff, embodied intelligence has great potential for commercialization in these scenarios. Professor Li Jing from the Shanghai Key Laboratory of Intelligent Manufacturing and Robotics at Shanghai University also mentioned that in rehabilitation scenarios, embodied robots can provide emotional value and meet interactive needs such as medical companionship by carrying a general large model.
However, the implementation of embodied intelligence in the field of medical and health care has not been smooth sailing. Niu Chuanxin, deputy director of the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine of Ruijin Hospital affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, pointed out that rehabilitation robots have entered the era of embodied intelligent humanoid robots, but they are currently in the critical stage of clinical convergence, and may face problems such as indication control and fine regulation of treatment plans. Therefore, regulatory issues such as the medical license of the product are also difficult problems to be solved urgently.
Gu Jie believes that the special feature of the health care scene lies in its interactivity and temperature. In cognitive training, speech function training and life function recovery training, it is necessary to interact with people, which is also the core need of rehabilitation. Therefore, robots need to have the ability to perceive, be able to perceive the environment, human needs, and surrounding emotions, and use large model AI technology to make corresponding feedback. In the future, humanoid robots will meet the needs of rehabilitation treatment and interaction in different forms, and functions such as companionship and cognitive training will also become the field where embodied intelligence can show its talents.
Fourier has ten years of experience in the field of medical rehabilitation and has been engaged in human-computer interaction for a long time. Gu Jie said that the technology of humanoid robots is essentially to solve the core proposition of "how humans and machines get along", which is highly consistent with Fourier's technical advantages. At the Global Rehabilitation Summit, Fourier also took the lead in launching the "Embodied Intelligence Rehabilitation Technology Development Initiative", which aims to further promote the technical application of embodied intelligence in health care scenarios.
