Since the widespread popularity of passenger cars in the early 20th century, the automotive industry has completely changed people's daily lives and reshaped urban layout. Faced with the ever-changing market demand, the automotive industry must gradually absorb digital solutions to maintain sufficient competitiveness. At this critical juncture, Outec's advanced technology is driving the industry into a new era, helping to optimize production processes and transform towards a smarter future.

FAW Volkswagen: Integrating VR technology into the automotive design process with the support of Autodesk Alice and VRED

FAW Volkswagen is a large passenger car production enterprise jointly operated by FAW, Volkswagen, Audi, and Volkswagen China. It is the first modern passenger car production enterprise in China to start construction based on economic scale. As a key player in the Chinese automotive market, FAW Volkswagen is constantly expanding its technological boundaries to enhance consumer experience. Among them, by integrating VR technology, FAW Volkswagen has achieved an efficient evolution from concept development, design to production, which is supported by powerful technology and solutions provided by Autodesk Alice and VRED.

Han Luqiang, a VR technology engineer at FAW Volkswagen, introduced to attendees in a forum speech that unlike traditional methods that rely on cross-sections, charts, and numbers, VR provides an efficient and immersive way for teams to simulate user experiences without the need for physical models. The implementation of this working method relies on the support of Autodesk VRED. The team writes code in VRED to ensure consistency between virtual and physical models. At the same time, the WebEngine module helps integrate interactive HMI prototypes with virtual cars, and with the power of GPU ray tracing, the reflections and colors inside the car are more realistic. In addition, in terms of model modification backtracking, the quick adjustment function of the subdivision surface modeling module and Dynamo parameterization module in Autodesk Alice Subdivision further enhances operational flexibility and efficiency.
