Amazon is accelerating logistics automation, with its new training center intensively testing the "last-mile" delivery capabilities of humanoid robots. In addition to Agility Robotics' Digit from the US, it has also introduced a low-cost model from China's Unitree priced at $16,000.
Test results show that Digit possesses complex capabilities such as stair climbing and cargo handling, but its cost exceeds $100,000. Unitree, with its four-legged structure and lightweight design (30 kilograms), emphasizes cost-effectiveness, enabling rapid movement and the retrieval of small to medium-sized packages. The two models form a "high-low combination," covering diverse scenarios.
As early as 2020, Amazon acquired Zoox for over $1 billion to expand into autonomous vehicles. This robot testing aims to bridge the final link from "autonomous vehicles to the user's doorstep," building a fully automated chain from warehousing to delivery.
Current technical challenges focus on adapting to complex environments (such as obstacle avoidance and extreme weather) and user interaction. Amazon plans to complete 100,000 hours of field testing by 2025, with the goal of piloting commercial use by 2026.
