Recently, ABB Robotics launched an energy efficiency service to provide manufacturers with consulting, analysis and tool services to improve the energy efficiency of robots. According to a recent energy efficiency action report, high energy costs hinder 58% of global surveyed manufacturers from improving their competitiveness, and this service can save up to 30% of energy consumption and help companies solve this problem.

Michael Hose, global head of ABB Robotics Customer Service Business Unit, said: "One of the top priorities for manufacturers is to reduce energy consumption. More than 93% of surveyed manufacturers said they will invest in energy efficiency improvements in the next three years to reduce costs and move towards more sustainable operations. The new service we provide will achieve these goals by optimizing robot energy efficiency, including optimizing performance and using the latest robot technology.

Measuring the energy efficiency of industrial robots has always been a complex task involving the measurement of multiple electronic components. In addition, it is also difficult to measure the impact of some factors, such as inefficient installation, inappropriate component size, overload and application changes, which can cause changes in the original performance of the robot.
ABB Robotics' Energy Efficiency Service addresses these issues by combining ABB's 50 years of experience in industrial robotics with a range of energy measurement tools to provide customers with a simple way to evaluate and optimize robot energy efficiency. This suite of measurement tools includes the following three tools

1. Standby Energy Optimization Tool
The Standby Energy Optimization Tool is an external measurement tool that customers can use to evaluate the actual energy consumption of robots and controllers. After collecting data through the tool, a report can be generated, including energy-saving solutions and specific recommendations for further optimizing performance.

2. Program Optimization Tool
The Program Optimization Tool is used to analyze the robot's operating program to highlight where energy-saving improvements can be made. Based on the backup data provided by the robot, the tool can identify measures to improve performance and reduce energy consumption, such as adjusting the robot's program speed or movement trajectory.

3. Energy Monitoring and Benchmarking Tool
The Energy Monitoring and Benchmarking Tool continuously monitors the robot's energy consumption and conducts comparative analysis. The tool can provide energy consumption data and recommendations for performance improvements, and compare with other robots in similar applications.

The service can also analyze the impact of upgrading to a new generation of technology with energy-saving features. For example, ABB's new generation of OmniCore robot controllers can provide first-class motion control performance and save 20% of energy through power regeneration technology, brake energy recovery and other functions.
Energy efficiency services are the latest development in ABB's strategy to help companies achieve sustainability by automating and optimizing processes and minimizing waste.
