ABB has launched the latest medium-voltage air-cooled inverter, ACS8080, which once again demonstrates its profound heritage and innovative strength in the field of industrial drives for more than 50 years. With cutting-edge motor control, multifunctional design and digital functions, ACS8080 has taken reliability, performance and flexibility to a new level.
The efficiency of ACS8080 can reach up to 98%, aiming to achieve the best performance for the entire drive system. The new MP3C motor control technology greatly improves efficiency and motor friendliness while retaining the dynamic response and robustness advantages of direct torque control (DTC). Compared with traditional control and modulation schemes, ACS8080 reduces harmonic interference by about 50%, thereby effectively extending the service life of equipment and achieving energy saving.

The ACS8080 is designed with versatility and ease of integration in mind, meeting the needs of multiple applications in multiple industries. The modular and flexible design supports external transformer and sine wave filter options, making it suitable not only for new applications, but also for retrofitting existing drive systems or DOL motors.
Advanced digital capabilities give the ACS8080 a high degree of flexibility: the integration of the open software platform Crealizer™ into the ABB drive operating system enables advanced programming capabilities, enabling rapid development and deployment of unique innovative application functions and reducing reliance on external controllers.
Chris Poynter, President of ABB's Motion Solutions business unit, said: "ABB continues to invest in research and development to deliver new solutions that increase productivity while reducing emissions and lowering operating costs. With more than 50 years of experience in critical applications, we understand the importance of reliability and flexibility. That's why we continue to innovate - integrating simple and adaptable designs, improving testing capabilities and incorporating the latest digital technologies. The ACS8080 reflects our commitment to reliability, performance and flexibility to help industries move towards a leaner, cleaner future."
The ACS8080 features a lean design with fewer parts than its predecessor, which not only improves reliability but also simplifies maintenance and overhaul.

The reliability of the ACS8080 has also been proven under harsh conditions. At ABB's Drives Test Center in Estonia, the ACS8080 was subjected to rigorous accelerated life testing, simulating up to 20 years of operation on site, and the test results showed that the ACS8080 is reliable and durable.
The ACS8080 uses enhanced sensing technology and new-generation control hardware to increase diagnostic data collection by 10 times, providing users with better and faster monitoring solutions. The new ABB Connected Edge Gateway can achieve local or cloud connectivity, which is an ideal solution for various digital needs. The built-in sensing solution of the ACS8080 can provide equipment health and performance management (AHPM), reliability monitoring, and data-based inspection functions, which can troubleshoot and detect faults more quickly.
The ACS8080 has a built-in cutting-edge safety and protection system designed to prevent foreseeable dangerous conditions and effectively control emergencies. During the development process of the ACS8080, full consideration was given to preventing unauthorized access, malicious firmware, data leakage, and insecure connections, allowing users to enjoy the convenience of all modern digital functions with peace of mind.
