What is the principle of precision gear hobbing?

Precision gear hobbing is based on the principle of forming, similar to the meshing of worm and worm gear. The tool used in the machining process is a hob, which has a similar profile to a worm and forms a cutting edge by intersecting the spiral grooves on the cylindrical face of the tool and the grooves cut perpendicular to the direction of those grooves, which approximate the tooth profile of the rack. The rack and any number of teeth of the same modulus can be meshed correctly, so when the hob cutter rolls through the gears of different numbers of teeth of the same modulus, the required tooth profile can be obtained. By regularly distributing the teeth of the rack cutter on the helical surface of the cylinder, the shape of the hob cutter is formed.

Fourth, the gear hobbing method generally cannot process internal gears or multi-linked gears that are too close to each other. Finally, another advantage of the hobbing method is that cylindrical gears with different numbers of teeth can be machined using hobbing cutters of the same modulus.
